gal 1:
Galatians 1:6–17 NIV84
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! 10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. 11 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.

1. Stay in your lane

Paul was utterly amazed that some were leaving the way
The surprise came because the Galatians followed a different gospel
Don’t allow hard times to get you off your lane
You were called by Grace, unmerited favor
God wanted to call you so He did
Why would you leave Him?

2. Beware of cults masquerading as churches

Jim Jones, David Koresh, Joseph Smith were all charismatic but they were wrong
They use the name of Jesus but deny His authority
They are secretive
They create many rules, dos and donts
You can earn your salvation
A sense of spiritual superiority (they know what is really happening)
They manipulate the Word (try to scare people into believing)

3. We need to preach the Gospel

Gospel means to bring good news
Paul preached the Gospel of revelation not tradition
What kind of preaching are you hearing?
Why are you following a gospel that is not?
Lk 2:
Luke 2:10–11 NIV84
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
Even angels have to proclaim good news
The angels announced the birth of Jesus the Savior
The angels said to them, do not be afraid
The Gospel is not about scaring you into heaven
The Gospel is about telling you that a Savior is born

4. There is freedom in the Gospel

Our Savior separates us from the penalty of sin
Our Savior separates us from the power of sin
If you are in His hands, no one can pluck you out
We are forever delivered
We received the Gospel of Freedom

5. There is power in the Gospel

Power to set you free from fear
Power to give you hope
Luke 9:1–2 NIV84
1 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
lk 9:1-2, 6
Luke 9:6 NIV84
6 So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere.
L
Power to drive out all demons
Power to cure diseases
Power to heal the sick
Authority to drive out all demons
Authority to proclaim His message
We can’t manipulate the Gospel in order to fill churches
The Power of the Gospel changes lives (fear doesn’t change lives)
The Power of the Gospel transforms lives (rules don’t transform lives)
Let God be God
Get out of His way
Don’t apologize for Him
You don’t need man’s approval
God is for you
