Paul is warning against Three dangerous ideas … One is Mysticism which screams MORE, the Second is Asceticism which says think NO to everything and Third is Gnosticism which say WILLPOWER.
Pride says God needs Christ and MORE
Humility say God only need Christ ALONE.
Religion is always condemned in the word of God because of it’s source … Flesh and Man
Bullied is the word that seems very popular today in our culture today.
Being Bullied has many different situation that it can be applied to.
Some use a type of spiritual bullying in Christianity today to make others feel like they need more in their spiritual life to be closer to God.
Watch out for feeling deficient.
1. Christ is enough for my salvation.
Some would say that you need more than what has been given to you.
2. Pride says that I need something more than what Christ has offered for my salvation.

Many during this time would want to have a false sense of humility.
Self imposed humility that points to the person not to the savior.

Religionists have that same characteristics today as they did back in the day of Colossians believers.
They profess they believe the Bible:

They like to wear long robs:
They like to regulate meats:
They believe in celibacy:
They believe in the fundamentals
They worship angel:
They have a scaramental religion religion col 2:20,21
They practice monkish asceticism: ,
They are all lost children of hell:

Let’s Get to the Root!
I. Danger of Angel-Worship vs 18-19 Mysticism
A. A Christian Can be beguiled and Lose Rewards:
1. Satan is a “Begulier”
2. The Beguiler knows most Christian will not be fooled into live of open immorality and sin, but through subtle methods of false worship.
3. Watch out for the Angel of Light
4. The beguiler has the desire to get believers to lose rewards by leading them astray in which appears spiritual.
B. A Christian Can bel beguilded into a False-Humility:
1. Voluntary or self imposed humility.
2. How “humble” not to approach Christ … The Head vs 19 directly but through angels.

C. A Christian can be Beguiled into ‘Introducing into those things not seen”:

Every Christian as well as every unbeliever prefers “Thrills and Chills” to Bible study and prayer.
2. The hardest thing we face in the ministry is to simply get men to accept the naked truth of God’s Word.
We desire the religious sideshow or youtube video of the outrageous.
We are to walk by faith not be dazzle.
D. A Christ Can be Beguiled into being “Vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind: (Experiential Theology)

We like to think of ourselves more spiritual because of some “experience” we have.
The thief on the cross is just as saved as you or I.

II.
The Danger in Flesh-Worship: vs 20-22 Asceticism
A. A Christian Can be beguiled Through “Rudiment and Ordinances”: vs. 20

We desire to substitute the figure for the reality!
2. We desire “aids” and “helps” to worship which then become the object of worship.
B. A Christian Can Be Beguiled Through Self Depravation: vs 21-22
1.
The Ascetic sees the body as evil and concludes that way to holiness is deny it’s desire and refuse it’s appetites.

Mahatma Ghandi starved himself
Origen Mutilated himself
Albert Schweitzer refused to bathe till their bodies became breeding ground for lice … dropping special holiness.
Celibacy, poverty, virginity …
This magnifies the power of the Fleshly mind instead of the power of the Indwelling Spirit.
2. The Ascetic does control passions and Indulgences but does not solve the problme of the puffed up mind!

One can deny or punish his body to the limit and still have a heart filled with unconquered lusts.

Asceticism is a dismal failure to true spirituality because the emphasis is external, not internal.
III.
The Danger of Will Worship: vs 22 Gnosticism
A. A Christian Can Be Beguiled Through “A Shew of Wisdom”:
1.
We are lovers of wisdom today: education, science, evolution, humanism … the Answer to everything.
2. We worship the human mind today.
B. A Christian Can Be Beguiled Through “Will Worship”
1.
This is really the summary of “Bottom Line” of this passage.
2. Paul is demolishing Mysticism, Asceticism and Gnosticism with the Words “will-worship”

Danger … Beware let’s some man BEGUILE YOU …
Danger of Mysticism, Asceticism, or Gnosticism stop looking to these things and begin to stare at Christ.
