Jacob has no money

Jacob works for 7 years to Laban for Rachel. Jacob has met his match in Laban...
God is Patient
Abraham and Sarah struggled to have children ad did Isaac and Rachel. He in this chapter, 29, by the end we can see the promises start to take off with lots of children.
Here also in 29 we see Jacob is a work in progress and that there is still a long way to go with Jacob. God is persistent amd patient.
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
Older and Younger
Jacob is so in love with Rachel that he is prepared to give four times as much for Rachel...
How was Jacob to cope? He was second fiddle to his brother, loved for the love of his father and away from the one person who really cared. He focus on Rachel as the one perhaps who would fill him and help him in life.
LABAN, sees Jacob’s desperation and moves to exploit it.
Jacob marries Leah and when he realises this he goes to Laban and Laban’s response was to say
26 Laban said, “It is not so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Laban confronts Jacob with the truth of what he had done to his father!
Leah, longs for the love of her husband and names the children after her longing
Reuben
Simeon
Judah
The reality is that things don’t change
The world is not enough, it cannot fill us. We long for things and run after things but things don’t change, we still long. We go to bed with Rachel and wake up with Leah.
No human relationship can meet our expectations.
Expectations - Marriage as an example.
Bringing people into family, we can focus so much on our own families and forget others.
What does God do to Leah’s hell.
We see this in her words when announcing the children’s names. Her longing for love from Jacob has moved onto the Lord.
What’s the deepest adoration of your heart? Where have you gone to to fill the gap?
If only I had????
There may be a word in this for people who may see themselves as ugly...
Interesting Judah comes from Leah
A word to people who feel society is overlooking
The Lord values those whom the world rejects!
Know you have a saviour
Perhaps a word to thos who long to get married - God can only fill the hole
Perhaps a word to those who are married and feel disapointed. Pursue a great marriage, good but know marriage will never fill your deepest needs. The world is never enouigh me but Jesus is. He says “Come unto me” He says this to all…The world is not enough but Jesus is...
