At The Cross.

John 19:23-27

23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took

His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every

soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless,

woven in one piece.

24 So they said to one another, " Let us not tear it, but

cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be";this was to

fulfill the Scripture:

"THEY DIVIDED MY OUTER GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTH-ING THEY CAST LOTS."

25 Therefore the soldiers did these things.

But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and

His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary

Magdalene.

26 When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple

whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, "

Woman, behold, your son!"

27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!"

From that hour the disciple took her into his own house-hold.

27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your

mother!" From that hour the disciple took her into his

own household. NASU

At The Cross.Here we find in this text or this comicate by Saint John

the evangelist. The third words or spoken pharse by Jesus

on the cross.

We also find two groups of fours here; Yes, there are four

Roman soldiers and four women who are followers of

Christ here at the cross.

Looking at this from ground level it seems kimd of sharp

coming from the mouth of Jesus to say “Woman” , be-hold

your son. The word woman could lead one to have

different thoughts about Christ here. But more investiga-tion

finds that “woman” is a word of hornor and not one

of degrading as one may think.

The other thing that at frist seem strange to me was why

did not Jesus put His mother in the hands of His broth-ers?

We are here talking about things that happen at;

At The Cross

Another view from ground level I see here is, why was

Jesus not pre-occupied with what was ahead of Him. The

answer in all of this lays;

At The Cross

Now let me if you please see if I can shade some light

quickly on these questions. If you notice, Jesus never.reffered to His earthly mother as “mother”.

You remember do not at the wedding banquet at Cana in

Galilee when all the wine had ran out.

John 2:3-4

3 When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him,

"They have no more wine."

4 "Dear woman, why do you involve me?"

At The Cross

One may ask the question, why did not Jesus His mother

with His brothers, but just because they are your brothers

it does not mean that they are responsible to do what is

right.

Look who was at the cross with Jesus? There were four

Roman soliders, four women, but not one of His brothers.

The only man that was present weas John whom Jesus

loved.

His mother was given to the care of one who belived in

what Jesus was about.

Remember that John 7:5 states;

5 For even his own brothers did not believe in him.

NIV

This all happen;

At The Cross.You would not want to leave your mother in the hands of

irresponisable people.

You and I sometime in our life ought to make a trip to the

foot of the cross, that we may receive some guildence as

to what God would us to do.

It all happen;

At The Cross

The compassion of Jesus, it happen;

At The Cross

Frist He said; Luke 23:34

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are

doing."

At The Cross

Then He said; Luke 23:43

"I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in para-dise."

NIV

He said in this third word; Dear, Woman here is your

son,........ Here is your mother.

It all happen; At The Cross
