Focus verse:
Note: “You have given Him authority over all flesh”
God has given Jesus great authority
But why has God given this authority to Jesus?
1.
Because of His role in creation
What does it mean that Jesus is “the firstborn over all creation”?
God said the following about David...
To be the firstborn means to have a place of preeminence.
With regards to Christ, of whom David is a type, it means He has the highest place, He is the preeminent one.
But why is that place given to Jesus?
Paul continues
Because Jesus created all things, it is only right that He should have authority over them.
Futhermore, He is the one that holds the whole universe, both seen and unseen, together (v17).
2. Because He is God’s chosen Man
Note: “because He is the Son of Man”
He is baiscally saying that we don’t currently see what Psalm 8 described fulfilled in humanity.
Mankind is stuggling and doesn’t seem to have authority over all things.
However, we do see Jesus, and this pslam is being perfectly fulfilled in Him, as He is the Man exalted to God’s right hand having all authority.
In other words, Jesus is the fulfillment of what God intended for Adam and Eve to enjoy.
Still subject to Father
His subjection to the Father 1 Cor 11:3
We have seen that Jesus as authority to give eternal life, to judge mankind, and to uphold the universe.
Jesus also has authority:
To forgive sins
Over all angels, good and bad
Over demons and disease
over disease and death
Over nature
Over the church
Over kings and rulers
Over everthing!
The One who has all authority is with you always.
If Jesus has all authority, and if He with you always, how can you be afriad?
The invitation to reign with Jesus
In the midst of a storm at sea, Jesus came to the discples walking on water.
Jesus wants us to share in what He has.
He wants us to reign with him.
Stop speaking to God about your mountain, and start speaking to your mountain about God!
