Matthew 3:13–17 ESV
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

15- Jesus’ baptism starts his ministry and fulfills God’s saving activity prophesied throughout the OT, reaching highest point with death on cross.
..to fulfill righteousness..John’s baptism for repentance was a means of id with the kingdom of God, Jesus id with God’s kingdom through that baptism, not that he had anything to repent for.
15. NOW- Arti (GK)- Immediately
15. Jesus links his ministry to Johns by approval.
15. John was a prophet and did everything according to his role. Jesus told him to baptize and so he did.
15. John chose who was to be baptized and who wasn’t ....he did reject some.
16. Spirit of God- anoints Jesus as Israel’s King and Messiah and commissions him as God’s righteous servant.....
16. immediately… GK.. sense of urgency or immediacy

1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations.
16. the heavens opened… a standard prophetic image. The book of Ezekiel starts this way in V1.... the heavens were opened and I saw a visions of God.
Matthew 3:17 ESV
17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Matt 3
17. The voice from heaven confirms the eternally existing relationship of divine love that the Son and Father share as Jesus’ identity as the messianic Son of God.
Psalm 2:7 ESV
7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.

matt 17:5
17. Jesus is so humble, as a servant into whose hands the father is well pleased to place the mission to bring salvation to the nations.
He is the triumphant messianic king!
what does this say to us?....
We are marked with the kingdom of God, power.
God wants people to work together.
When we are faithful , he will respond with joy, pleasure.
We should want to fulfill scripture, even today.
God is well pleased with us
