Thesis:  To examine the walk of a Christian and how one can walk the walk.
Introduction:
 
1.
We must WALK in the Spirit (Gal.
5:25).
2.      Exhortations are given throughout the Bible to WALK!
a. Be thou faithful unto death (Rev.
2:10).
b.
I Cor.
15:58
c. “So run, that ye may obtain” (I Cor.
9:24b).
d. “…let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Heb.
12:1).
3.      Some have the false notion that one must be sinlessly perfect.
a.
We are to be holy; i.e., set apart (hagios) [I Pet.
1:15-16].
b.
We are to live for Christ (Phi.
1:21).
4.      Let us note 3 things about the Christian’s walk:

I.
In what are we to walk?
 
A.
There are 2 paths under discussion: darkness and light.
1.      Pro.
14:12
2.      Christ alone is the way (John 14:6)!
3.      Darkness = Outside of Christ.
a.
Not in fellowship with Christ (Eph.
5:11).
b.      Unbelievers (II Cor.
6:14).
B.     We are to walk in light.
1.      God is light (vs.
5).
2.      Christ is the light (John 1:1-9).
3.      God’s Word is light (Psa.
119:105).
4.      Thus, we are to walk in the teachings of Christ and in so doing we are walking with God and Christ (Eph.
3:17; I John 4:15, 16; Col. 3:17).
II.
How do we walk?
A.
Walk – a continuation of steps.
1.
A continual walking results in a continual cleansing.
a.
We must be a living sacrifice (Rom.
12:1).
b.      Unto death (Rev.
2:10; II Tim.
4:6-8).
2.      We walk not as a hypocrite (vs.
6).
a.
There is no “Give me the man but not the plan.”
b.      Christ and His message are inseparable.
3.      We walk worthy (Eph.
4:1).
a.       Wisely (Eph.
5:15).
b.
In truth (II John 4).
c.       Worthy of the Lord (Col.
1:10).
B.     We are in fellowship with God and Christ.
1.
If we go beyond the doctrine, then we don’t have either God or Christ (II Jn. 9-11).
2.      This was the prayer of Christ (John 17).
a.
He gave the disciples the Words of God (vs.
14).
b.
In so doing, they were set apart (vs.
17).
c.       Thus, they would be one as Christ and God are one (vv.
20-21).
3.      We receive God’s Word, thus being set apart and in so doing we have fellowship with one another and God as we are unified on one common ground, truth (Eph.
4:1-6).
C.
Not sinlessy perfect, but steadfastly striving.

2.      Striving – Luke 13:24
 
III.
If we sin, then what?
A.
Understand that you can and will sin (vs.
8).
1.      Don’t be too ashamed to repent (Mat.
5:4).
2.      Don’t be too proud to repent.
B.     When we sin, we repent (vs.
9).
1.      2nd Law of Pardon.
2.      II Cor.
7:10
3.      Examples of men in the Bible –
a.
A sinner who committed fornication, murder, and other sins is called a man after God’s own heart [David].
b.      Jeroboam sinned and is continually referred to as the one “who made Israel to sin.”
c.
What is the difference?
(1)    David repented (II Sam.
12).
(2)    He followed God’s Word (Psa.
119:11).
C.     If we follow this pattern, then we are continually walking in the light and God’s Word IS in us (vv.
7, 10).
