The call

1 Samuel 3:1–10 NKJV
1 Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. 2 And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see, 3 and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down, 4 that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!” 5 So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down. 6 Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” 7 (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.) 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”
You cannot choose your calling. Your calling chooses you. You have been blessed with special skills that are yours alone.
There was a need for a replacement

There was a need for a replacement
1 sam 3:
1 Samuel 3:2 KJV 1900
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

1 sam 3:
It showed the humility of Eli
If a replacement was not found, the light of Israel would have gone out figurative and literally. Eli was the leader for the people at that time, but he was getting older and was going blind.
1 Samuel 3:3 KJV 1900
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
The lord called him when it was quiet, he had quieted both body and mind.
sometimes absolute quiet is need for the lord to reach us.
1 Kings 19:11–12 NKJV
11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
The revelation for Elijah was not in the wind or the earthquake or the fire, but in the still small voice.
Psalm 46:10 NKJV
10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
God called him three times and each time he came willing and ready
How many times has God called you to something and you have not answered that call?
God is he calling you to reach your full potential, but are letting excuses get in the way?
Luke 14:16–20 KJV 1900
16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

The king of the universe is inviting you to a better life, but all we sometimes see is the work involved.
I will have to eat differently. Too much work
I will have to take care of my body. Too much work
I will have to dress differently. Too much work
I will have to not say things about people. Too much work
What did the young man say when God called him?

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

1 Samuel 3:10 NKJV
10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”
“Speak, for Your servant hears.”
can you been that obedient when called
Have you said not my will, but thy will

What kind of people God calls

God does not call the perfect and he will meet you wherever you are in you life.
God does not choose perfect men. He chooses men perfect for the job.
Each of these men represent how far we can go, but it depends on our commitment.
God called Moses on the side of a mountain
Exodus 3:3–5 KJV 1900
3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
He was a murder at this point
Moses was reluctant at first and made mistakes, but didn’t leave God’s side
God called Saul from behind a tent
1 Samuel 10:21–22 NKJV
21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. But when they sought him, he could not be found. 22 Therefore they inquired of the Lord further, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.”
Saul hid when he was called and made mistakes and left God’s side and has been hiding since that day.
Saul hid when he was called and made mistakes and left God’s side
Saul hid when he was called and made mistakes and left God’s side
God called Peter from a fishing boat
Luke 5:9–11 NKJV
9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” 11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.
Peter answered the call and made mistakes, left God’s side but returned with renewed focus and commitment.
Peter answered the call and made mistakes, left God’s side but returned with renewed focus.

He will call you wherever you are

Are you guarantee a easy life because you answered the call?
Moses was able to bring the children of Isreal out of Egypt but failed to complete. but God came and got him in the end
Saul became king but didn’t use his new position to bring glory to God or draw closer to the one that exalted him and in the end was lost
Peter became more that a fisherman, but as Christ said a fisher of men.

What are we being called to?

1 Corinthians 1:9 KJV 1900
9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
we are being called to fellowship
1 Corinthians 1:24 KJV 1900
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Ephesians 4:1 KJV 1900
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
And those who have been called are not to turn back.
1 Corinthians 1:24 KJV 1900
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
KJV 1900
He doesn’t play favorites he is calling everyone to a work

What will your choice be?

We have all been called or we wouldn’t be here today. We like Samuel do not know yet what the cost will be or the full extent of all the duties. But I can assure you that the work that God will do in you and through you will amaze even you.

What will your choice be?

Matthew 21:20–21 KJV 1900
20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Matthew 21:21 KJV 1900
21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
But the mountain can’t be moved or the fig tree withered up if you don’t allow the Holy Spirit to take the lead.

But the mountain can’t be moved or the fig tree withered up if you don’t allow the Holy Spirit to take the lead.
One of the same ones that was amazed was now doing the same thing his master did.
Acts 2:38–41 KJV 1900
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do, and what I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.”
: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
That same Spirit that did that mighty work is calling you to a mighty work.
Will you answer the call and become the person God wants you to be?
