Mark 4 21-25; Lk 8 16-18;

Light; Dark Darkness; Light of the World; Witness; Evangelism; Commission; Culture; Identity; Grace; Ordinary; Plain; Boldness; Bold;

A man I know recalls growing up in a little town in the mountains.  There were few streetlights, and when bedtime came, the streets were dark.  His bed was by the window, and every night the last thing he saw before closing his eyes was the tiny light of a neighbor’s doorbell button—two blocks away.  On a dark night, even a small light travels a long way.

So you may not be a famous humanitarian, a world wide evangelist, or a well-known preacher.  But when Jesus returned to heaven, He commissioned you and me to be His lights who must not hide our faith under a bushel.  If we don’t reflect the light of our Lord in our dark culture, it remains dark.  God has graciously given His children the capacity to meet human need in the power of the Holy Spirit and, as we do so, to be His light in a dark world.  And that’s our very identity.
