Introduction:
Psalm 139 is written about man’s personal relationship with God.
Because of its intimate knowledge and its poetic flair, it is rightly attributed to David.
David was definitely a poetic genius and a man of deep spiritual desire.
This Psalm sheds light on his spiritual experience with the Lord.
It has been said regarding human relationships “/You are the closest to the people who are most interested in you.”/
In thinking along the lines of a relationship with God, sometimes these questions are asked: 1) How well does God know me? 2) How close is God to me? 3) How carefully has God made me? 4) How does God protect me?
These questions help us if we struggle with our identity, loneliness, worry or fear.
Therefore, we must examine our relationship with God? Why?
I.
Because of God’s omniscience (vs.1-4) – God is all-knowing
A. God knows every move that we make (vs.
2a) – Genesis 16 – Hagar
B. God knows every thought that we have (vs.
2b)
C. God knows every moment that we live (vs.
3) – Nothing escapes His notice.
Your entire life is in the hands of God.
Every direction or path that we take has its own set of consequences.
D. God knows every word that we speak (vs.
4) - Matthew 12:36-37 – “Every idle word”
II.
Because of God’s omnipotence (vs.
5-6) – God is all-powerful.
A. God’s power encloses us (vs.
5) – It surrounds us – details – Daniel in the Lion’s Den – Daniel 6.
B. God’s power encourages us (vs.
6)
III.
Because of God’s omnipresence (vs.7-12) – God is all-present
A. Death does not remove us from God (vs.
7-8)
B. Distance does not separate us from God (vs.
9-10)
C. Darkness does not hide us from God (vs.
11-12) God sees no difference between darkness and light.
You cannot speak of God in absence –Hebrews 4:13
Conclusion: God has invited us to get intimately acquainted with Him, will we accept His invitation or reject it.?
