The book of Hebrews

#. *(Heb 2:7-8 – quoting Psalm 8)"*7You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor 8and put everything under his feet.”

In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him.

Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him."

#. *(Heb 2:9) "*9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."

Message from Chapter 2

God knows what is like to be human

                                                              i.

*(Heb 2:14) "*14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity. .

God knows what it is like to be tempted

                                                              i.

*(Heb 2:18) "*18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

ii.

God knows what it is like to suffer                                                               i.

*(Heb 2:10) "*10In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering."

Timothy Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, writes:

Only Christians believe in a God who says, "Here I am alongside you.

I have experienced the same suffering you have.

I know what it is like."

No other religion even begins to offer that assurance

I preached, "Christianity is the only faith that tells you that God lost a child in an act of violent injustice.

Christianity is the only religion that tells you, therefore, God suffered as you have suffered."

Three Important Conclusions from Hebrews 2

And in spite of his humanity, his temptations and his suffering,                                                               i.

*Jesus Triumphed (Heb 2:9) "*9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."

ii.

*We are His Family (Heb 2:11) "*11Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family.

So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers."

iii.

*We will Triumph Too (Heb 2:14-15) "*14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death."

He is Able to

                                                              i.

Help us through our humanity

                                                            ii.

Strengthen us to stand up to temptation and forgive us when we don’t

                                                          iii.

See us through our suffering

                                                           iv.

Even enable us to face death without fear.

He is more than able because he has walked this path before and now walks it with us.
