Intro: Worship is not based on my status, condition, or lot in life.
Worship belongs to God and commanded from God. Worship is not done to receive a special blessing from God.
The Lord God is sovereign.
He reigns on his own and is not counseled by anyone.
In his sovereignty he blesses whom he blesses and uses whom he desires.
God seeks true worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Worship is service and worship should be followers of God’s lifestyle.
Lead into text: The accuser is testing the Lord in his relationship with his creation.
The book of wisdom and poetry tells of the great story man deals with to this day.
Why doe the good die young, why does bad things happen to good people and why do people suffer.
These were concerns in the time of Job as they are now.

We are introduced to a father, who is married with 10 children.
Job is a wealthy man:

We find out his children enjoy each others company.
The sons would rotate hosting the celebrations.

He observes all of his creation.
He knows who is righteous and who is not.
God blesses and can take away.
The Accuser
This is not necessarily the Satan.
This is a person who is accusing any of God’s people.
Satan = accuser and when doing the work of Satan one can also be an accuser.
Job seeks to honor God
When the festival was over Job made burnt offerings to atone for their sins.
This was Job’s regular practice.

Satan thought Job’s character was dependent on his possessions and blessings from God.

Here is the test of God’s relationship with his people.
Do we bless God because of our blessings?
or do we bless God because he is worthy of all the praises?
We bless God be cause he is worthy of all the blessing and worthy of all the praises.
The accuser thinks Job is a mercenary that worships God.
So God allows him to test God’s judgment of his creation and method of how God blesses.
Yet, the accuser had a limit to what he could do.
Job’s Test begins.
Job is going about his life as usual.
The children are doing their festival and this time at the eldest son house.
Fist messenger that all oxen were raided by the Sabeans and killed all the farmhands.
Only one servant escaped who is delivering the news.

Second messenger () tells that “the fire of God” better understood as lightening fell from heaven and struck the sheep and all the shepherds and only on servant escaped giving the news.
Third messenger () Three bands of Chaldean raiders stole all camels and killed your servants and only one escaped again.
Fourth and final messenger tells of a strong wind that blew the house down of his eldest son and all died and only one servant escaped to tell the news.
Job is hit with tragic news almost simultaneously.
Before the servant finishes there is more bad news building up and up the loss and the grief.
How do you respond to suffering and tragedy shows your character.
We are introduced to a man who God speaks of high character who fears God and reverences God.
What we learn from Job’s response will help us to better understand the person of God and how the accuser does not see God with the same reverence.
The accuser believed if he hit Job with a heavy blowy he would curse God.
Curse God
Job instead blesses God in the midst of his tragedy.

Job faith was built on God’s love and did not waver in his tragedy.
He stood on the promise of the Lord.
