I. Introduction
col 3:
I chose these two versus because they are a stark contrast between that which is of sin and that which is of God.
It contrasts that which is the product of this and that which is the world to come
It necessitates a decision - who are you?
Are you of the children of disobedience or are you a son of God?
Are you of the world or are you of the Kingdom?
Here, I want to make a distinction between religion and being born again.
John 3:1
I ask you are born again?
Today’s world has made it seem that going to church, reading you Bible, believing in God, are salvation and they most certainly are not.
They may be the fruit of salvation, but not salvation itself.
These things will not result in a new birth.
Today I want to focus on one key aspect of being born again.
What drives a man to his knees at the Cross of Christ?
What can compel a normal man to realize that he is lost and needs to be born again?
SIN
Godly sorrow is sorrow over what you are, as JOB laments:
Isa
There is sorrow over who you are: a sinner who has recognized the Holy King Jesus Christ
It is in contrast to what Christ is that we realize who we are without Christ
"Sorrow of the world” is sorrow for what you have done.
job
ex
There is a contrast, a realization, that there is a Holy and righteous God and we are a weak and sinful
Sin is the recognition of who and what we are are without Christ which is dead in our sins.
Do you see the constant contrast: in and of ourselves we are dead to sin, but alive in Christ.
However, without recognition of sin, you cannot be born again.
Sorrow over sin is the conviction of the Holy Spirit showing us that we are dead in our sins and need saving.
If you have never confronted your own sin and need for Christ - then I implore you to do so today.
Salvation is not a better life, or better health, or not being lonely, but being SAVED FROM YOUR SIN
Without recognition of sin there can be no recognition of the need to be saved
Listen carefully: Are you a sinner?
I dare say there a great many people who believe that they can get to heaven simply believing the proposition that Christ is the Son of God.
Luke
Even the devils know and declare that Christ is the Messiah and the Holy One
Knowledge - is not salvation
Salvation is a relationship with the King, it is being born of God through Jesus Christ because you were driven to repentance by the weight and knowledge of your sin and the need for the saving blood of Christ - or HELL.
So I say again, salvation is to be saved from something and that something is sin
Have you confronted your own sin and need for salvation?
I end with poem and question: Have you confronted your own sin and taken it to the cross:
Introduction
Josh 24:15
I want to focus on two words.
“This day.”
I want to focus on two words in partia
This day you must choose
There is “the day”
Choose this day to be content
Our key verse is in Philippians - which state unequivocally, that to be content is a choice
Was there a day?
Let that sink in - was there a day, was there an hour, was there a moment that radically changed your life forever?
Can you point to the most important day in your life and say - yep, that’s the day
Just take a moment and remember that day.
Who was with you?
How old were you?
The Cross
If the day is not about you - then what is it about?
In evil long I took delight,
Unawed by shame or fear,
Till a new object struck my sight,
And stopped my wild career.
I saw One hanging on a tree,
In agonies and blood;
He fixed His languid eyes on me,
As near His cross I stood.
Sure never till my latest breath,
Shall I forget that look!
It seemed to charge me with His death,
Though not a word He spoke.
A second look He gave, which said,
"I freely all forgive;
This blood is for thy ransom paid;
I die that thou mayest live."
Thus while His death my sin displays
In all its blackest hue,
Such is the mystery of grace,
It seals my pardon too!
