Introduction

Video game saves and do-overs.
Do you ever wish you could get a do-over?
Life doesn’t work like a video game. Or can it?
Sold Out
Begin with
Luke 9:23 CSB
23 Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.
First message was about being transformed and sold out = completely devoted to Jesus. If you want to be my follower.
Then deny yourself. – surrender control of your life to Jesus – let him take the driver’s seat.
Take up your cross – say no to self, yes to Jesus. Identify with Jesus’ death on the cross. Be prepared to suffer and even die for the sake of the kingdom and Jesus.
Follow Me – last month we looked at and said this means follow Jesus wherever He leads, observe, emulate, become like Him.

Philippians 2:5–8 CSB
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.
(just 5 and 8)
Jesus as example. Consider others better than yourself. Submit. Humility. Etc.

Becoming Like Jesus

2 Corinthians 3:15–18 CSB
15 Yet still today, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts, 16 but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18 CSB
18 We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Paul talking about the OT law and how Israel did not understand, it was like having a veil over their hearts.
v.16 when you turn to Jesus that veil is removed from heart
v.17 the Spirit of God lives in us and where the Spirit is there is FREEDOM.
v.18 with our faces exposed/unveiled we gaze at Jesus as looking in a mirror.
being transformed into the same image – to look more and more like Jesus. That’s a spiritual image.
reflect the glory of the Lord. Becoming increasingly like Christ.
His Spirit gives us real freedom.
being transformed into the image of Christ.
The ever increasing glory and image of Jesus.
(not becoming just a better version of me but the life of Christ living through me by His Spirit.)

Becoming the New Me

Colossians 3:1–15 CSB
1 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, God’s wrath is coming upon the disobedient, 7 and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. 8 But now, put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator. 11 In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. 14 Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful.
take off old nature put on Christ. Being renewed to image of Creator.
Colossians 3:1–2 NLT
1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Colossians 3:3 CSB
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:2–3 CSB
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

v.11 Christ is all that matters

Deny ourselves, take up our cross, follow Jesus to become like Him and carry on the rescue operation that He established.
So, yes. Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace that we receive by faith.
But it’s more than just a prayer, it is about being transformed into the image of Jesus.
It’s more than just going to heaven, it is about renewing our relationship with our Creator.
It’s more than just a spiritual transaction, it’s about completely selling out to Jesus.

Jesus used as a way for me to examine my life. Am I doing everything in the name/for the sake of Jesus? If something cannot be done in His name, should I be doing it?
