The Sin
A. THe Report (V.1)
Paul had heard that one of the Christian men at corenth was living with his stepmother while his father was still alive.
This was a situation that would even be offencive to Paggons.
There is sexual imorality among you
The Word used here can include a number of illicit sexual behaviors but whatever was going on it Jeprodized the health of the corinthian Church
A key reason for church Dicipline is the health of the Church
the Union that had taken place was one that was particularly offencive in nature
THis imorality is not even tolerated by the pagans
The sin that had taken place was so discusting that in was even condemed by Godless pagans.

B. The responce of the action (V.2)
To Paul this was absolutly outrages and was a blatent breach of Christian holyness.
However the corinthians were Proud of it they arn’t hung up on the dos and don’t’s they do what they want because christ has set the freee and want to show how tolernt they are.
Paul basiclly is asking
“What is wrong with you”
They saw there freedom in Christ as a licence to sin and to take part in nearly any kind of conduct
They wanted to show how tollerent they were of sin the basic statement was...
“Christ died on the cross so we can partake in any kind of sin”
Christ’s death is not a licence to sin it allows us to no longer be defined by our sin!

Paul tells the believers in corenth that they should have reacted to the Behavior this man has with a united front of greif.
It should be deeply upseting that another christian could shame his Lord in this way
The sad thing is churches do this today
liberal churches say you are welcome here and do not need to clean up your life.
leaglistic churches say you are not welcome here until you clean up your life
But Jesus says you are welcome here and I will change your life
C. What must you do
Paul tells the Believers to remove the individual from among them
Rember the prosess of Church Dicipline?
Paul is not unaware of Christ’s teaching in this matter he is not telling them to ignore this teaching.
The fact that he tells the church to remove them implies that the sin had been going on for sometime and it was clear that the individual involved involved in the sin was not going to repent.
It is also lickly that some of the church had tried to correct the issue but Others fefused pointing to there “freedom in Christ”

The statement to diliver the man to satin is an unusual one.
used only one other place in all of scripture
This is not refering to physical death as many have unfortenetly interpreted.
The distruction of the flesh is corrective for which the puropse is to lead the individual to salvation
The expression used to diliver such a one to satan is equivelent to putting away the wicked man from among yoreselves in V 13.
This turning over to satin is to turn him back ti the world.
This text gives the indication that this man was not saved therfore he should be returned to the wold so that he can reap the consequences of His rebellion.
The idea being he will see the error of his way turn to christ and be saved
If we let him continue to assume he is saved his soul will be damed but if we correct and lead back to Christ he will be saved.
