If a person is someones child do they always look like them?
How do you know someone is their child?
Why
1 John
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
What makes us children of God is that He has set his love on us - it is suppose to stop us in our tracks and see something we have never seen before - something so wonderful, powerful, and amazing that can only come from God.
what kind of love is this! - where on earth could this have come from? This is so foreign and unimaginable. and because of this great love when we receive it
we are declared that we are his children. And what God declares it is so.

When God declares us as his children because of the work of Christ we belong to him we take on all the rights of children
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

all this stemming from his overwhelming love - thats the key to it all
it is suppose to stop us in our tracks and see somethign we have never seen before

FAMILY LIKENESS
My son doesn’t particularly look like me - but we have many resemblance in how we act and our mannerism - we love food the same way, our mannerism, our interests, humour etc.
Q1. In what ways are you like your own parents?
When we become God’s children we begin to take on the family resemblance becoming more and more like Jesus as we follow him and live in his family
1st John
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
This is identity is secure - it now and into the future - not only in name we are God’s children but in status too - we will be like him in our fullness kind of like as we get older we become more and more like our parents - we become to take on the things modelled to us
God wants us as his children to trust his love and love him in return - not try and impress him or feel group pressure in order to belong but rather we must always remember that our relationship with God matters most and that we are far more significant than what we do. our security in life comes from our identity as God’s dearly loved children which doesn’t depend on our activities but on God’s love and grace.
Story of ollie scratch binoculars - what I wanted him to know is that he is my son and that I love him and that covers over those things and I will help him do whats right and love up to what God has called him too - to be more and more like Jesus as a child of God.
This is identity is secure -
No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.
Q2. What does it mean to be God’s child? How does that effect how we live?
