Introduction

Chippie the parakeet never saw it coming. One second he was peacefully perched in his cage. The next he was sucked in, washed up, and blown over.
The problems began when Chippie's owner decided to clean Chippie's cage with a vacuum cleaner. She removed the attachment from the end of the hose and stuck it in the cage. The phone rang, and she turned to pick it up. She'd barely said "hello" when "ssssopp!" Chippie got sucked in.
The bird owner gasped, put down the phone, turned off the vacuum, and opened the bag. There was Chippie -- still alive, but stunned.
Since the bird was covered with dust and soot, she grabbed him and raced to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and held Chippie under the running water. Then, realizing that Chippie was soaked and shivering, she did what any compassionate bird owner would do . . . she reached for the hair dryer and blasted the pet with hot air.
Poor Chippie never knew what hit him.
A few days after the trauma, the reporter who'd initially written about the event contacted Chippie's owner to see how the bird was recovering. "Well," she replied, "Chippie doesn't sing much anymore -- he just sits and stares."
It's hard not to see why. Sucked in, washed up, and blown over . . . That's enough to steal the song from the stoutest heart.
Max Lucado, In the Eye of the Storm, Word Publishing, 1991, p. 11.
Truth be told, many if not most of us know what it feels like to have trouble treat us like Chippie…it grabs us suddenly.
I like the MSG puts it...
Today I’m taking a preparatory position. I want to get you ready for the trouble, problems, issues, concerns, challenges
Today I’m taking a preparatory postion. I want to get you ready for the trouble, problems, issues, concerns, challenges
Psalm 27:3 The Message
3 When besieged, I’m calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool.
Today I’m taking a preparatory position. We paid money to get our daughter ready for the SAT BEFORE she took it!
app: I want to get you ready for the trouble, problems, issues, concerns, challenges.
Example: The one thing that impresses me about LeBron and many of the other great players is what they do in the off season. LeBron continues to work out.
Pt.: He doesn’t wait until it’s time to face off with the opponent in the fall. He gets himself ready for them now.
Lebron isn’t the only pro athlete that’s getting ready for 19/20 season. His opponets are too.
PSA: Trouble is already preparing for you! What are you doing?
If you hear me correctly, you’ll respond to the trouble you’re in differently. Or you, when it shows up, you’ll go through it differently!
Psalm 27:5 NKJV
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
Transition: You will never enjoy the security of vs. 5 without the secret in vs. 1

Pt. 1 Personal Relationship

You will never enjoy the security of vs. 5 without the secret in vs. 1
Psalm 27:1 NKJV
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
this is almost incomprehensable when there is no relationship with the Lord. Listen to David’s confidence
Psalm 27:1 NKJV
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

Pt. 1 Personal Relationship

Just because you’re saved doesn’t mean you get it! It definitely doesn’t mean you won’t have trouble.

Dual Realities

Dual Relaitoes
I have a choice of 2 realities.

1st Option

I can perceive the trouble ... eviction, can’t get apartment, terminal, etc
This is why you don’t want to wait to get right w God when sailing is smooth.

2nd Option

I perceive I’m safe. Look what David is facing.
Psalm 27:2–3 NKJV
2 When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.
ps 27:3,
-wicked are in full pursuit
-an whole gang of them are circling up
-war is currently raging
Psalm 27:1 NKJV
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
Exercise:
My intentions are to look at vs. 5. You can’t get to first 5 without at least referencing prior verses.
Shout out the name an enemy you’re dealing with...
Q: How would you act if by the end of this worship service they’d been wiped out?
Q: Would you be happy?
Pt.: There is no stumbling and falling unless they show up!
Hint: This is why you don’t want to wait to strengthen your relationship w God.
1 Corinthians 6:9–10 NKJV
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
you can’t receive the revelation of God’s plan for you in the face of trouble if you’re not walking in the K! You will ALWAYS perceive the wrong reality!!!
Transition: I can call victory in, I can declare I’m safe in trouble when
1. Personal relationship
I can call victory in, i can declare I’m safe in trouble when

Pt. 2: Private Residence “secret pavilion”

Personal relationshipPrivate residence secret pavilion v2 ‘in His pavilion’ His hut, refuge
v2 ‘in His pavilion’ His hut, refuge
Psalm 27:2 NKJV
2 When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.
It’s not that He’s going to need it. But He built it as a place for his guests
Ill: when we first got married we lived in mid town. There was a unit reserved for family and friends of residence. I never stayed there. Never saw it. But whenever Moten’s came they did. I didn’t need because I’d already been taken care of.
Pt: God’s already thought about where He’s going to put you. If America is under attack, there is a bunker already built for the president of the USA. News Flash: Your accomodations are better than the president’s!!!
v2 ‘in His pavilion’ His hut, refuge
Pt. 1 Personal Relationship
Pt. 2 Private Residence

Pt. 3: Placed Out of Reach

Psalm 27:5 NKJV
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
Hiding in Plain sight. The enemies reality is that I’m accessible. My reality is I’m out of reach.
Hiding in Plain sight. The enemies reality is that I’m accessible. My reality is I’m out of reach.
Ill: Bishop Morton talks about jogging and a new dog. It scared.
App: you need to remember that the devil is on a leash. Aka this isn’t the first time you’ve been trouble and you’re still here. Your reality is you’re out of reach!!
When you have personal relationship and replay your past victories it shifts you into the Kingdom reality.

Close

Psalm 27:6 NKJV
6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
Shall be lifted - it’s a done deal!!! There’s no question about what the outcome is going to be.
Psalm 27:6 The Message
6 God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I’m headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I’m singing God-songs; I’m making music to God.
Psalm 27:6 NET
6 Now I will triumph over my enemies who surround me! I will offer sacrifices in his dwelling place and shout for joy! I will sing praises to the Lord!
Psalm 27:6 NIV
6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.
ps 27.6
He’s going to show your enemies that He’s making you ok
No enemy is excluded. Word of instruction…stay on the rock!!!!
Since it’s a done deal
“therefore I will offer sacrifice.”
it’s going to cost you something. you may not want to. you may have to make yourself do it.
ps 27.6 “offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle” aka at church
“i will sing..”
“i will praise God”

When I think of the goodness of Jesus!!!
