Truth
Truth
Our minds and body have to be actively engaged
the old testament structure of worship...
God told Moses of all the aspects of worship
Tabernacle, clothing, incense, furniture,
All 5 senses, to come to the tabernacle was awe inspiring
everything said I’m coming into the presence of the almighty
every thing bears witness to God’s glory, beauty, Majesty, and Holiness
our worship today uses hearing
what about touch, see, smell, and taste?
does any of the worship of the old testament spill over to today?
we have to be careful not to replicate the temple worship.
Sight
Beauty
coming to the temple and seeing the colors, gold, angels
living in the wilderness
awe
this is where God is!
as we come into the sanctuary there should be visible reminders to focus our minds on The Almighty
always the danger of making something a source of pride thus a Idol
or something cute...
Smell
Most old buildings the smell is unpleasant musty moldy.
which detracts
in the temple there was the altar of incense representing the prayers of the people
the burning sacrifices a sweet smell to the Lord
smell of blood reminding the people of shed innocent blood for their sin
the scent here today I hope will remind you that you are entering into the presence of God
it is one of the spices given to Jesus by the wise men
Hearing
the sound of beautiful music as we enter
music was very important for the praising of our God
singing words of thankfulness, and God’s power and majesty
Hearing of God’s word read and preached
Touch
to a human being touch is a very crucial element of life
an untouched baby could die
Jesus touched the leper who had not felt human contact in years
The children wanted to be touched by Jesus
Ronda wants to cuddle
there is a business of people cuddling “Professional Snuggle Buddy”
The hand on the head of the lamb to transfer your sin
there is the
the hand lifting up the grain, and bread offering to the Lord
we have the bread of the communion we hold and taste
remembering Jesus body given for us
The knees on the floor to remind us that we are under submission the the King
Taste
the old testament had the feast of passover and other feasts to remember and look forward
the taste was to remind them I.A. the bitter herbs = the slavery in Egypt
we also have the taste of the fruit of the vine to remind us of the blood of Jesus shed for our sins
Conclusion
the sights sounds smells feelings and taste of the worship is designed to give us a total body and soul reminder who we are and who God is
but like every thing else routine and laxness makes our worship in vain
our heart has to be prepared when we walk through those doors
as we come in and sit down
listening, looking, smelling, feeling , and tasting the sweet honey of Gods
Presence
we prepare our selves to be intimate with the All Mighty
