Election/Choice/Adoption
That our walk with God is total brought about by the work of Jesus
Typically, students would pick their masters
But in this case the election, selection and choosing process was brought about by Christ going after and selecting the disciples
While there is considerable debate to the specifics of how Christ has called, who responds to the call, why they respond etc, what cannot be denied is the fact the our love to God is total a work of Jesus Christ and not ourselves.
Here Jesus makes it clear that he chooses the disciples as his students, they did not choose him
Adoption
Adoption is always predicated on the parent choosing the child, not the child choosing the parent.
