Luke 10:29 NKJV
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Luke 10:30 NKJV
30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Bullies, mean people, not being good friends, excluding people when we play. ETC.
Luke 10:31 NKJV
31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
This is a guy who should have been nice but he did not want to get his hands dirty.
Luke 10:32 NKJV
32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.
Another preacher or person that went to church. He looked at the guy and just couldn’t bring himself to get involved. Maybe it would take too much work. Maybe he was just too busy. Or maybe he was too cool to get involved.
Luke 10:33 NKJV
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
Now this is like your worst enemy coming to you when things were not going well at all. They see you and they know that something needs to be done.
What do you think he would do? Now he is not even liked by anyone in the family of the man hurt. He is not their friend. What would you think he would do?
Now keep in mind the two guys who were friends at church, who they respected did not want to get their hands dirty or didn’t have the time to stop and help. SO what would this guy do?
Luke 10:34–35 NKJV
34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’
Whattttt? He did the opposite of what everyone else would do. HE took care of this guy, who bullied, and treated really bad. It is like he played with him when nobody else would. He saw a guy that everyone else treat bad and made sure that he was taken care of.
What a different way of doing things. Sometimes we are not really nice people. We don’t treat everyone like God expects us too. Even at church we can not be nice. When we play we exclude others, we don’t let them play with us. Even as adults we see people as too much work or we get too busy to help each other.
Luke 10:36 NKJV
36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
let them answer....
Jesus gives us the answer:
Luke 10:37 NKJV
37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

So are you a neighbour?
