Intro- This morning we spent some time talking about what our lives will look like if we have God as our Father, (We will reflect his character, be united, have an inheritance, have a relationship with him.)
Tonight we want to spend a little bit of time in a section of scripture that gives us a glimpse into the mind of God as a father.
We are going to be looking at tonight. I want us to first understand the setting: Hosea is recording the Words of God directed toward His disobedient children… He speaks in a variety of ways, he talks about himself as a farmer and the people as a vine, then He shifts to a more intimate picture of Him as a Father, and The people as His children.
We need to pause for a second and think about the special nature of a Parent/ Child relationship.
When I look into my son’s face, I see myself, When I look at their behavior and sometimes misbehavior I see myself… They are a piece of me, and there is nothing in this world quite like that relationship
When I watch them play football/karate I am more nervous for them than I ever was for myself when playing. The thought of them getting hurt scares me, the thought of them Leaving the Lord is crippling…
Our God, has the same emotions when looking at His people… He is not some cruel disciplinarian in the sky. He is a Father, who loves His children deeply, and when they sin… He is hurt deeply.
