Me and WE
Recap
What did we learn last night?
We learned about moving day.
God had a moving day.
Why did God decide to move?
That’s right, because not only does God love you but he desires to be close to you.
This week we are partaking a journey to live confidently.
But you know sometimes its hard to be confident.
Especially when we face a really scary problem.
But God can help us overcome those problems.
Everyone has fears, some are big and others are quite small.
For me I have two really big fears.
Can anyone guess what they might be?
I am absolutely terrified of heights and roller coasters.
I get really scared whenever I am up high.
Sometimes I can be really brave and I’m okay.
But most of the time it is the scariest thing in the world to me.
But the one thing I will never do is ride a roller coaster.
They are so scary to me.
I remember one time, I tried to be all brave and I was all like “I’m going to ride this roller coaster and not be scared!”
Do you know what happened?
I was so scared and terrified!
I cried the whole time on that ride.
I just really wish it was a scary ride, but in all honesty it was one of those kiddy rides.
Why am I telling you this?
So you can make fun of me later on?
So you can buy me tickets to six flags and watch all my friends have fun except me?
Nah.
Because fears are hard.
They are scary.
Sometimes we never get past them.
Even when we willingly put ourselves in the seat of a log that is pushed over a waterfall!
But there is something I know.
No matter what problems you face, no matter what fears are right in front of you.
All of us have someone who is always right by our side to help us out.
God
Remember those people God told Moses to free in Egypt?
They were slaves right?
Well they wouldn’t be slaves forever.
Through a number of plagues the Israelites would escape and leave Egypt.
This was their moving day and they were on their way to Canaan.
Canaan was the promised land.
It was promised to them from the very beginning.
It was promised to their grandfathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
And now finally they too would be able to go to the promised land.
But before they would take one foot into the land of Canaan, 12 spies were sent to check everything out.
Where is the best place to eat?
What does the land look like?
Are there any scary giants we need to worry about?
All of that stuff.
They all saw the same things but there report was a very different.
They saw the giant grapes from the valley of Eschol.
Grapes and fruit that were larger than life.
Juicy and delicious!
It was a good place to live!
But they also saw the Giants of the anakim.
They saw that their cities had huge walls.
They had weapons the Israelites had never even seen before.
Just about everything they saw was scary!
10 of the 12 spies told Moses and the people, that it would be impossible to live in such a place.
Its too hard.
Our enemies are too big and too strong!
But Caleb and Joshua told the people,
Numbers 13:
Joshua and Caleb knew they could overcome the land and the people because they remembered who God was.
They were there in Egypt when God performed mighty miracles.
When we remember who God is; our problems can seem very, very small.
Many years ago, the grandsons of the giants of the anakim were still alive.
Those giants that the Israelites were so afraid of.
His name was Goliath and he was huge!
After many many years the Israelites still hadn’t gotten over their fear of the giants.
And we probably still would be too.
Everyone in the Israelite camp, including the king was terrified of the giant.
No one was willing to fight him.
But then David came along.
David wasn’t there to fight, he was there to check on his brothers and pass out cakes.
He was a delivery boy.
He had errands to run and then giant just gets in his way.
1 Samuel
But David is willing to fight the giant nonetheless.
David isn’t scared of the Giant like everyone else.
Why?
Because he isn’t focused on how he is going to defeat the giant.
He is focused on his God who has saved him from countless giants.
Check out what David said to King Saul.
You and We
When we focus on God instead of our problems we will succeed.
Always remember that God is bigger than the scariest problems we will ever face.
Trust in God and He will see us through!
