Introduction:

Review:
Ephesians 4:3 NASB95
3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
(v.3) We talked about this text in the previous sermon. We came to certain conclusion.
-Unity doesn’t not happen naturally we must strive for it.
-The Spirit of God is actively Drawing all believers closer to Christ and to each other.

I. One Message

Ephesians 4:4 NASB95
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
(v.4) Paul strategically list 7 nouns following the adjective “one” to make a greater point. There are places biblically speaking that we can have some disagreement and not be outside of the family. There is a flow in these verse that helps us to see the Unified nature of certain doctrines. In Theology we will these doctrines “Primary” These doctrines formulate the underlying theme of the bible. Paul in this verse helps us see the relational functions of the members of the Trinity.
(v.4) “There is one body” Paul tells us that there is “one body” which means to say that Jesus is not an adulterer. What we need to do is determine what he means by this. Let’s take a look at some scriptures:
Ephesians 2:20–22 NASB95
20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
(v.20) Whatever this body is this text tells us that the foundation of the building are the teaching of the Apostles & OT prophets. Notice who is the corner stone. That is Jesus Christ.
(v.21) “in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord” Jesus is himself the foundational pillar that all other pieces must fit into. The whole superstructure is built on top of Christ.
What is being built?
(v.21) “a holy temple in the Lord” This body is a “Holy Temple” that is singular. Meaning that there is a single-minded focus on the building of this temple. Anything that does not contribute to this is idolatry.
Ephesians 4:4 NASB95
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
(v.4) “There is one body and one Spirit” There is “one Spirit”
Who is this Spirit? and what is his relationship to the Body(Holy Temple)?
John 15:26 NASB95
26 “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,
(v.26) “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about me” In this text it talks about “a helper” that word helper: paraklatos this is the combination of two greeks words “para” come along side of and “kaleo” one who speaks out on the behalf of another.
Court Analogy & Gang Fight
Where does he come from?
(v.26) “Whom will send to you from the Father” Jesus tells us that I sent him, and that he came from the Father. Do you see the trinitarian cooperation?? Jesus knows his role. The Father knows his role, and the HS is obedient to his role. The text gives us a little more meat:
(v.26) “that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father” In this text he is called the Spirit of Truth, which tells us that he will point folks to the Truth.
Who is Truth?
:6

II. One Method

John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Revelation 19:11 NASB95
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
-In both of these scriptures Jesus is called “The Truth” he is the source of all Truth. So back in when it calls “The HS” the Spirit of truth this tells us that he has one message that he is too proclaim. The Spirit has one single-minded proclamation and that is to point us too “The Truth” so he comes to point us to Christ. Truth is not a concept it is a person.
Ephesians 4:4 NASB95
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
(v.4) “There is one body and One Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling” Now look at the last phrase. “Called into one hope of your calling”
Who called you?
(HELP)
John 16:13 NASB95
13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
John 16:8 NASB95
8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;
(v.13) The text says “The Spirit of truth” will guide you into all truth. He does not speak his own message but only that which he has recieved from the Father.
(v.13) “one hope” The HS is calling us to place your only Hope in Christ. Not in stuff, not in people, not in self but in Christ and Christ alone.
Summary: There is one Spirit who has one unified message that is pointed to a person who is named “The Truth”. The HS is working diligently and faithfully to construct one body or Holy temple that will one day be a wedding gift to the Son.
Tell the illustration of working at UPS and having to put each box in its perfect position in order that the whole truck can be filled efficiently as possible.
-Like the HS my job was to identify and fit each box into it’s proper place.
-The HS role is call then save broken and rebellious sinners, then he takes those new believers and begins to shape and mold them so that he place them into this Holy Temple unto God.
-If the Spirit is diligently working to build this beautiful superstructure called “The Holy Temple” “the bride” or “The Church”
what should our attitude be?
-We should be doing everything we can to get out of his way and submit unto his movement.
-Watching Dennis work, or Carmen design a room.
Transition Statement: Paul moves from the message to the method

II. One Method

Ephesians 4:5 NASB95
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
(v.5) “One Lord” you would not think Paul would have needed to say this portion here because it should be evident That Jesus is Lord. You must remember that this word “Lord” kurios could be used in both a general sense and technical sense. For instance if a person was talking to a Magistrate, Captain, or the Roman Caesar he would use the term “Lord” the term simple means “Master” Paul in this text tells us that although you might have to call your boss, the judge or the Roman Caesar; Lord. There is only one Lord ultimately. There is only one person that you will have to answer too. In the natural world there are many “Lord’s” but in the Supernatural World There is only one Superstar and it is “The Lord Jesus”
(v.5) “One Lord, One Faith” Now this an interesting portion of scripture “One Faith” this recognizes that faith can be expressed in many ways. If there is only one faith he would not have to reiterate that there is “One Faith”
Faith definition: Trust or confidence in someone or something…Google
-Even the world recognizes there is this kind of spiritual internal conviction that believes or hopes for a greater tomorrow.
-You see even the non-believer displays faith everyday:
a. Drive in a car to work
b. Sitting down at their church at work
c. Flying on a plane for a business trip
d. Traveling on a big boat with unlimited buffets.
e. Investing their hard earned money in the Stock Market.
-Even the empiricist(atheist) is displaying Faith. “They say we don’t believe in Faith we only believe what we can prove” All provable scientific theories should be: Observable, Testable, and Repeatable.
-You see we are all putting our faith into something(job, stock market, our talent, or religious belief) or someone(husband, wife, friends, bosses or Pastor’s)
Ephesians 4:5 NASB95
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
-Paul tells us that their is only “One” legitimate Faith. Let me put and adjective in front of this “One Faith” we will call it “Saving Faith” When a person places there faith in science they are making an eternal mistake. When a person places there faith in a Pastor they are making an eternal mistake. When a person places their faith in stuff they are making an eternal mistake. Church we need to stop being politically correct on this point right. There is only “One Faith” There are no alternative ways to Heaven, there are not many roads that lead to truth. There is only one faith, and only one truth. Stop sending people to Hell by being politically correct.
(v.5) “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism” The way this is translated gives the illusion that Paul is talking about water baptism, but it should actually read “in Baptism” This last phrase is not talking about water baptism, but the supernatural act of Spirit baptism let’s take a look at

(HELP)

1 Corinthians 12:13 NASB95
13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
Romans 6:1–4 NASB95
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
Summary of Corintia
Summary of Corinthians: The Lord tells us in this text the “one Spirit” baptized us into the body of Christ. The Baptism was not on the basis of our ethnicity but our identification with Christ. You might say that we “where cleansed” which means that once that Spirit has cleansed us and placed us in the body there will not be any sin later that can take us out of the body. We have been supernaturally baptised and cleansed by the Spirit.
Summary of Romans: Paul is arguing against those who say “Since God is going to forgive me, I might as well keep sinning” Notice what Paul says in (v.2) “How shall we who died to sin still live in it?” this is a rhetorical question right here. Then Paul goes on to tell them what happened when they got saved. Paul says just in case you did not know when you got saved you were baptized in his Death, meaning the sin nature was render powerless. And your were raised into newness of life. You are not the same, your are constitutionally different now.
Transition Statement: The Spirit calls out the message, The Son executed the Method, and The Father sovereignly rules over the Cosmos.

III. One Master

Ephesians 4:6 NASB95
6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
(v.6) “One God” Paul here reflects back to the Jewish Shema found in

(HELP)

Deuteronomy 6:4 NASB95
4 “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!
(v.4) All Israelites would have known this scripture as it was a part of their liturgy. Kind of like our benediction. This truth made Israel unique and separate from all the Nations around them who were polytheistic.
(v.4) Then Paul focuses on the 1st person in the Trinity “the Father” You will that Paul moves from this generic term “God” or in greek “Theos” which speaks to God’s transcendent or separateness. He is wholly different from any of us. Now we need to understand that “Theos” is what the greek would call their gods as well. It is a generally term. But this is where all other beliefs systems stop and the Christian Faith separates itself from all others.
(v.4) “The Father” He is personal he is both far and near. This is a term of endearment. Let’s take a look at another scripture it gets even better:
(HELP ALL THREE)
Mark 14:36 NASB95
36 And He was saying, “Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.”
Romans 8:15 NASB95
15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8:15
Galatians 4:6 NASB95
6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
(Mark 14:36) You will notice Jesus crying saying “ABBA!! Father!
() Paul says we a receive a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “ABBA! Father!
() Because we are his children God has sent his Spirit to convince us that he is our “ABBA! Father!
-ABBA-“Abba” is an Aramaic word, as Mark hastened to add for the benefit of his Greek-speaking readers and hearers, meaning father or daddy. The word was used primarily by little children within the family circle. There is no evidence that Jews used the word in addressing God. Such familiarity, they thought, would be irreverent. By using the word, Jesus affirmed his intimate relationship with God.

(v.6) “The Father” isn’t wonderful this Sunday to know that we can call this person:

Isaiah 6:1–6 NASB95
1 In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” 4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke. 5 Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs.

() Do yall know who this is? This is “My Daddy” I am his son. And his doors are always open to me.
Ephesians 4:6 NASB95
6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
eph 4:
(v.6) “One God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all”
Who is the “all” in this text? is he talking about all people or all believers
-Context is key: Go back to verse (v.1) is he talking to unbelievers or believers. He is clearly talking to believers.
-Paul gives us a four-fold usage of “all”
a. He is the Father of All(both Jew and Gentile)
b. He is over All(he is sovereign over all)
c. He is through all(meaning everything we accomplished is as a result of Him)
d. He is in all(He is indwelling all) There is no special anointing or special indwelling for certain super-spiritual people.
-Hopefully after hearing these texts you feel this sense
What do you see in this text?
the Trinity is an integral part of the list. The one body of believers is vitalized by one Spirit, so all believers have one hope. That body is united to its one Lord (Christ) by each member’s one act of faith, and its identity with Him is depicted by one baptism. One God, the Father, is supreme over all, operative through all, and resides in all. All seven components are united in the Trinity.

-Hopefully you are thinking after this sermon:
What can I do to honor & give thanks to the Father for his goodness?

Luke 9:28–35 NASB95
28 Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. 30 And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah, 31 who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him. 33 And as these were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not realizing what he was saying. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!”
Luke 9:36 NASB95
36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and reported to no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
Summary: The members of the trinity are so inextricable tied that when you “Honor” Jesus it honors that Father.
What can we learn from this Trinitarian passage?
Application
The Person of the Trinity have roles that run in
The Person of the Trinity fulfill their roles with Joy
The Father is the orchestrator of roles and functions of the other two members of the Triune God.
The Father plans, The Son executes the plan, and the HS implements the plan!!!
