As we considered Vs 16-18 we could see that the promise that was given you Abraham, namely, that he would be heir of the world, was not given to Abraham only but also to those who are of the faith Abraham.
And because it was this particular faith that was accounted to him for righteousness it then becomes very important that we have this kind of faith.
There are many different kinds of faith but only this kind of faith can save you.
This is not saving faith.
This is not the faith of Abraham.
Genuine faith, saving faith produces fruit.
But saving faith is not only the faith of conversion.
Genuine faith is the key to a victorious life and abundant life in Christ.
It is lack of faith that causes us to fall to sin and remain in bondage to sin even if we have genuine saving faith in Christ.
Satan asked for him
Jesus prayed that his faith would not fail.
When you come back, strengthen your brethren.
We need our faith to be strengthen.
How is our faith strengthen?
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
So let’s look again at the faith of Abraham as we evaluate our own faith.
1.
To Consider Circumstances Outside of the Reality God is Weakness of Faith
Abraham’s circumstances were that having a child was physically impossible.
Any logical, rational person would agree that this couple should not be preparing a baby’s room or buying baby clothes.
But because of the reality of God and who he is and what he promised Abraham disregarded his circumstances, he did not consider his circumstances.
Perhaps you have circumstances in your life this morning which would cause you to fear.
Do not consider those circumstances outside the reality of God.
If you genuine faith in God then you have nothing else to fear.
Your life is in His hands.
2. To be Strengthened in Faith in the Face of Adversity Gives God Glory
He did not hesitate at the promise of God.
When we hesitate at the promises of God our faith is weak.
Abraham did not waver through lack of faith but was strengthened in faith.
How did Abraham strengthen his faith.
By the word of God.
Which in Abraham’s case was the promise of God.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
Do you doubt that God is aware of your circumstances.
Do you doubt that God will take care of you.
Do you doubt that you will overcome some besetting sin in your life?
Do you doubt that you will be able to endure the trials that you face?
Do you doubt that God can forgive you?
Do you doubt that God is able or willing to keep you until the day of salvation
Do you doubt that he will complete the work that he has begun?
Do you fear death do you doubt the resurrection
When Abraham strengthen his faith God was glorified.
God is glorified when we acknowledge that he is God and he is able.
Abraham faith acknowledged that God is glorious.
When we believe God we receive the promise but God gets the glory.
When we doubt God we belittle Him.
We say with our doubt “you are not able, you are not faithful”.
But when we believe God, our faith declares “you are able, you are trustworthy you are almighty God”
