22 Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out.
23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”
How quickly can a normal day turn to down right terrifying? It starts great and shortly after that you feel like waving the white flag to surrender.
The day was full he had taught, dealt with his mother and brothers, and now he was needing sometime to get away.
Launch the boat he said.
It would be fun he said.
we could get away he said.
Jesus was relaxed enough to go to sleep. The wave were calming, relaxing, they rocked him into a deep sleep.

taking on water is not good at all. Being in Jeopardy, was not a game show.

Whatever it was, the disciples were waving the white flag and were a little, or a lot worried.
Henry Blackaby states concerning this passage:
Sometimes our circumstances look hopeless, but we never know the reality of our situation until we have asked Jesus. He knows things we do not. He has power we cannot imagine. It is foolish to come to conclusions on your own when Jesus is right next to us.
Our situation may look like we are in jeopardy and we have worked our selves into a panic the disciples were at that point. Have you ever been there? Where the world looks hopeless? But we fail to see that Jesus is with us right in the boat, in our situation.

24a They went to the right source, Jesus, but with a lack of true understand of the situation they were in, and they really didn’t know what Jesus could do. In their minds it was hopeless.
We all panic at times we think that it is hopeless and we pray not really aware of how Jesus can work. Often I think we pray not really believing God can do anything.
24b All we need is a word from Jesus in any situation we are facing . Even when the storm seem to be more than we can handle. Jesus knew what needed to happen. Like any storm he is able to handle it.
But Jesus also knew what was needed next. He challenged the real issue. And to our surprise the real issue had nothing to do with the storm they were in, it had nothing to do with their jeopardy. It had nothing to do with the boat or the fact Jesus was asleep in the stern of the boat.
What’s the issue here and in every situation you and I face. Well we all face times in our lives when we are overwhelmed by the storms of life.
The situation is hopeless and we are in real jeopardy. The christian calls out to Jesus as the disciples did, and this is a good place to start. Jesus can intervene as he did but is that enough? Was it enough for the disciples?
If we stoped at verse 24 we would say: “Absolutely” because that is what we often say is the pattern. But then there is verse 25.
25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”
And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

In the midst of the storm they were all afraid, they thought this was the end. They come to wake him up. Jesus calms the storm. Everything seemed good.
But Jesus asks the question:
“Where is your faith?”
“Where is your faith?”
They cried out not because they believed. They cried our in:
Fear
Fear
How might had approached the situation if they had faith?
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
They would have faced the storm fearing nothing. They would not know the outcome of the storm they faced but they would trust God had a plain.
if you go on down though hebrews 11 we see people who put there full trust in God not ever knowing the outcome. This is the faith Jesus was asking about.
Could you and I ever have that kind of faith. I believe we can. When we believe in Jesus we have taken the first step. When we pray in the storm and believe Jesus can be the difference regardless of the outcome we have stepped out in Faith.
When we say because of faith in Jesus we can face the storms we have answered the question today.
