Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.

2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.

3 For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Why Does the Universe exist?

Colossians 1:15–20 NASB95
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
Romans 11:36 NASB95
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
Psalm 150:6 NASB95
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Genesis 3:8 NASB95
They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
God desires a relationship with His “image bearers”
Read: Genesis 1:26-28
Who did God create in His image?
What did He tell the image-bearers to do?
Be fruitful
Multiply
Fill the Earth
Subdue the earth
Have dominion over the fish, birds, and every living thing
What do each of these commands in mean? How do they relate to each other?
God wants His glory to fill the whole world through the multiplication of those who bear and rightly reflect His image;
God’s image bearers rightly bear his image by subduing the earth and having dominion over the animals; man is a creator and cultivator
What was the mission God gave to all image-bearers?
What does “bearing the image of God” have to do with the purpose of your life?
Read:
What is the “Great Commission” God has given to the individual believers and the Body of Christ as a whole?
How does this relate to ?
Review and application
In your own words describe the purpose for which the universe was created
Picture in your mind a timeline of the history of man stretching to eternity
How big is your life on that timeline?
Considering how big your life is in relation to eternity, what should you invest your life in?
On the other hand, what would be a good way to describe someone who would choose to live his or her life for a purpose different than God’s purpose?
