Introduction

I do not want this to be a graduation speech. Too many times those are boring
This is also different. Those tend to be motivational, inspirational.
You may even here a quote from Dr Suess
Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care. About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there." With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you'll want to go down. In that case, of course, you'll head straight out of town.
It's opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as brainy and footsy as you.
And then things start to happen, don't worry. Don't stew. Just go right along. You'll start happening too.
OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
You might go a lot of place. You may never leave Plant City!
I do not know where you will go, I do not know where you should go, but i do know who you should follow
If you do not put Christ first nothing else you do, nowhere else you go will matter
If you do not choose to follow Christ you are choosing to follow the world.
If you do not choose to follow Christ you are choosing to follow the world.

1. Following Jesus will not happen by accident (14,15)

Context
(14a) You must worship Him:
Sincerity= your faith must be real and it must be your
Truth= you have to know who you are worshiping
(14b)
You cannot worship anything else
(15a) Obviously Joshua does not want anyone worshipping a false god. His point is that you have to chose. To not choose, to sit on the fence, is to chose to abandon God.
(15b) Make a declarative statement. Draw a line in the sand. Will you hold to it 100% of the time? No, but you will know what to return to when you fail.

2.God will not share you with the world. (16-20)

I want to share with you the enemies playbook.
(16-18) Your past in church is not enough to ensure you future faithfulness
(19,20) The enemy will work to convince you the compromise is not a big deal
Just as God put his OT people outside His promised land, if you sin and don’t repent you will end up outside the community of God. (discipline, abandonment)
Just like a husband and wife, God loves you too much to share you

3.Make a permanent commitment to Christ and be bold about it. (21-28)

Say it
Get rid of temptation
Write it down
Allow accountablity
Remain faithful

Conclusion

I am passionate about this subject because it was this time in my life when i stepped away from God. I sat in a service like this and was probably given Biblical admonition like this but I didn’t listen. My prayer is that you will listen. My prayer is that then next years of your life are some of the best years you have for following Jesus. You do not have to live like everyone else. You will not be missing out if you follow Jesus. Actually you will:
You will miss out on heartache, loneliness, isolation, addiction, brokenness, and misery.
What you will gain is peace, fulfillment, purpose, and to live in the light of unconditional love.
You may amaze us with the places you will go, but my prayer for you is that you follow a the Savior that you know.
