1 and 2 Chronicles was written because the people of Israel had been in exile and they were coming back to their land.
However they had been in exile for so long that the Israelites didn’t have the knowledge of God that their ancestors had
This is a book that is meant to teach them about their history and to give them HOPE
Isaiah was written in a similar to frame to this book and Both Ezra and Isaiah are trying to call God’s people back to him and give them hope for the future despite what they see
This section shows the finishing of the temple God had promised to his people and God is giving instructions to Solomon and reminds him of the covenant he has with them is very clear about His expectations for his people.
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
This can be hard for us to hear that God has expectations and their will be repercussions for the actions we take if those things are outside the covenant of God.......however this is what God is showing us here.
God is communicating in this that our covenant with him is even more important than our temporal comfort.
