Series: Power for Life
Title: Power for Strength

God’s Power for My Strength

Isaiah 40:28-31

Text: Isaiah 40:28-31
Date: August 17, 2014
Introduction:
Have you ever tried to run an appliance without it being plugged in?
Toaster/vacuum cleaner/coffee pot/ drill/ hair dryer/ tv….
The power that we need to live our lives for the glory of God requires that we stay plugged into the power source!!!
That Power Source is the Lord Jesus Christ!!!
Power for life is available: Word of God, presence of God, Holy Spirit, Serving Him through His local church
The power of God’s Holy Spirit working in the life of a believer will guide that believer to follow God.
Few things can bring us to the place of bad decisions like weariness.
Life has a way of bringing us to a place of complete and total spiritual, emotional, and physical depletion.
Weariness causes:
Trails, troubles, hectic schedules, illness, expectations of others, unexpected burdens, sin, no walk with God.
Weariness results:
Emotions are raw, testy in attitude, negative outlook, unappreciative of God’s blessings.
Sometimes causes radical changes with disastrous results.
It is agitated by kids, frustrated by a spouse.
Tend to lose spiritual perspective
Be warned: Weariness can destroy you.
The importance of each believer to be completely surrendered to the Holy Spirit cannot be over emphasized!!
See Luke 4:1
Luke 4:1
1- And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
2-

I. The Leading of the Holy Spirit

John 14:26
26- But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Romans 8:14
14- For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
“led by the Spirit of God”…why is it important that we are led by the Spirit of God???

A. Without Him, we are easily deceived

Most people are often misled by their emotions, feelings and desires.
Example: the instruments in a plane are there for when the pilot gets into a situation that he cannot see out…fog, rain, clouds or something else. At that time he must rely solely on his instruments because his own perceptions are distorted by what is going on around him.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5- Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6- In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

B. With Him we are safely led

When the Holy Spirit leads, then life becomes much more stable and truth-oriented.
He can be your navigator…always knowing where you are and where you are going!!!

II. The Assurance of the Holy Spirit

Note- everyone struggles with a certain amount of insecurity. It is human nature to want acceptance and affirmation.
Note-we often go to great lengths to fit in and be socially acceptable.
Nobody likes to wonder where he stands with others…it is very unsettling to our very nature.
A. Assures us of unconditional love
Note-it is our deepest longing to be unconditionally loved and fully accepted.
We crave the knowledge that in spite of our sin and failures; God is on our side.
John 15:13
13- Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Romans 5:8
8- But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
B. Assures us of complete acceptance
Note- one of the great ministries of the Spirit of God is to assure us of our standing with God.
Ephesians 1:6
6- To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Romans 8:15-16
15- For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16- The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Note- a baby born into a family does not have to earn his keep. The family will love him, take care of him, sacrifice for him….. the family will do everything in their power to meet the needs of this baby because he has been born into the family!!!
John 1:12
12- But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Galatians 3:26
26- For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
1 John 3:1
1- Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Note-our Heavenly Father does not require us to “earn” His love once we are born into the family of God!!!!
Note-many Christians cannot accept that God not only loves them, but He also likes them!!!
C. Assures us of abounding hope
The Holy Spirit can give us a supernatural perspective that includes the ability to see by faith the awesome hand of God working in and through our difficulties!!!
Romans 15:13
13- Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Romans 5:2-5
2- By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3- And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4- And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5- And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

III. The Renewing of the Holy Spirit

A. Renews our strength over fear
John 14:27
27- Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Philippians 4:7
7- And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:7
7- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
B. Renews our strength from sorrow
People cannot fill the void that sorrow leaves, but God can!!!
Psalms 23:4-6
4- Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5- Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6- Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
1 Thessalonians 4:13
13- But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1 Peter 5:7
7- Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
C. Renews our strength with patience
Patience is the Divinely imparted ability to endure the trial.
Patience is simply trusting God when I cannot see God.
It is a supernatural strength coming from the Holy Spirit in your heart and converging upon your circumstances.
Colossians 1:11
11- Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
“Patience cannot be developed in comfortable circumstances.”
D. Renews our strength through intercession
During times of turmoil that we cannot find the presence of mind to pray with clarity, …you are not sure what you need, much less what to ask for from God!!
The Holy Spirit knows your heart, and He knows the heart of your Heavenly Father!!! He cries out to God on behalf of your needs.
Romans 8:26-27
26- Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27- And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Conclusion:
