Journey Alone
John 6:60-71
John 6:60-71
John 6:60-71
INTRODUCTION
ILL-- kids fighting to have to take a bath and then fighting to get out of the bath.
We do not like change and the journey of change is very uncomfortable.
Journey Passages- Many of these are between our other series (Signs and I Am statements)
It’s the journey to the cross.
They all include persecution/ rejection of the Gospel.
A lonely journey- many abandon him and those who don’t do not understand.

3 Reasons We Journey Alone
1.
We See Light (61-63)
Light verses Darkness
Jesus’ words do not fit with what man wants to hear.
reference to
“who can listen to it”
62- what if the truth was completely visible at this moment without the need of faith.
They would miss it because they were seeing with flesh.
Jesus= “you take offense to this?”
We are called to shine the light of Jesus.
- it comes with consequences.
2. We Hear Truth (64-66)
Truth verses Feelings
ILL- Changed boys to Jonathan’s room-- I was sitting next to their bed watching Netflix.
I got up to leave room and the door was on the wrong side of the room.
My feelings said the door was straight in front of me but in reality it was to my left.
Our truth is found in the Creator of All.
Spiritual and the flesh are at odds.
Jesus was not surprised by their rebellion.
66- so they withdrew and went to the opposition.
61- grumbling 41- grumbling
Those that relied on the flesh became those who rejected Christ.
This is shown in Truth and feelings -- big deal in our culture.
In our culture feelings have become more important than truth.
Exp- When does life begin?
- I feel like I shouldn’t be telling women what to do with their bodies.
Exp- When does life begin?
- I feel like I shouldn’t be telling women what to do with their bodies.
Exp- How do you get to heaven? - I feel like for me… and therefore I shouldn’t tell anyone else they are wrong.
Exp- Who should get married?
- I feel like everyone should have that opportunity despite sexual preferences.
3. We Show Faith (67-71)
Faith verses Unbelief(67-71)
Trust God or choose your own will.
Many turned back- could not accept Jesus’ Words But the 12 believed.
compare Judas to Adam they both did not trust God’s Words and plan.
Jesus’ Words were hard- the 12 didn’t understand it any more than the multitude.
Answer “To whom shall we go?”
We believe- WE don’t understand but we believe what you say, even if it is hard.
We do not always like what the Bible says.
We do not always understand why.
But we have put our faith in Jesus.
Where else can we go?
Who are we to question the Word of God?
Do we trust God or man?
We must accept God’s Word with faith.
Do we trust Jesus as the only way of salvation?
