I. The Features of Following Christ. vs. 1-2

A. A Strong Longing
1. The word “conflict” in the original means agon where we get the Word agony ... care or fear an intense desire for those you love.

Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
Philippians 1:2 KJV 1900
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:30 KJV 1900
Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
1 Thessalonians 2:2 KJV 1900
But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
1 Thessalonians 2:2 KJV 1900
But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

Philippians 1:30
2. Paul not only cares for those in Colosse but in Laodicea a near by neighbor. Love has not boarders or limits.
3. These were people that Paul had never seen, but was still caring over them … Why.
4. False teacher had crept into the church to take try and take spiritual prisoners with a special knowledge other than Christ. The Danger was real
Colossians 2:4 KJV 1900
And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
B. A Strong Love vs.2
1. How do you comfort someone troubled discouraged. Which can happen
Ephesians 6:22 KJV 1900
Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
2. Heart means Kardia which refers to the inner man … being very intentional. We would say “don’t wallow in your misery.” What do you to break the doldrums … discouragement?
Eph.
3. Settle the hearts with the truth of God. The word “comforted” is parakaleo which means to be comforted. Have you ever had someone cheer you up. We called it a peep talk. A hopeless situation is redeemed by the words that come to a heart goes to the mind and expressed in the tongue and then goes to the ears that is understood by the mind that is acted on because of the heart. To be consoled. It helped.
4. This love is understood and then lived out by bringing us closer together. We feel the connection between each other when under seige. The World should see our love for one another.
a. This love is rich like a treasure
b. This love is understood as being in us a mystery that is clear to us but a mystery to other. Christ
5. Don’t discourage with your words but be a haven or encouragement for those around you. Show love love is sacrificial not safe.

II. The Fact of Following Christ. vs 3

II. The Fact of Following Christ. vs 3-5

A. The Treasure is the truth of Christ.
1.People find it easier to follow feelings instead of facts. We’ve seen countless people argue from the source of their feeling instead of facts.
2. Where is all the treasure found … wisdom and knowledge of Christ not this world.
1 Corinthians 1:24 KJV 1900
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Ephesians 1:8 KJV 1900
Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Luke 11:49 KJV 1900
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
3. “Wisdom” sofia is something studied pursued in life. Warning to watch what you study and pursue in life.
4. “Knowledge” gnosis not special secret knowledge like the gnostics but like who Christ is.
Philippians 3:8 KJV 1900
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Dung refuse everything else … Wow Paul that’s kinda strong. Nope

Romans 16:18 KJV 1900
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
C. Testifying of Your Trust in the Truth
1.Not there but hearing of your solid testimony. More then me seeing God sees you.

Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

III. The Firmness of Following Christ. vs. 6-7

1 Thessalonians 4:1 KJV 1900
Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
B. Looked on by others
1. Rooted- He really believes this stuff. established since ???? A tree with big roots not a spiritual sapling. Christ is the source of strength. Help you to weather whatever circumstance that you face in the future
John 15:4 KJV 1900

Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:
2. The strength is not in the person but Christ.
Acts 20:32 KJV 1900
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
