is an individual in the presidential line of succession, usually a member of the United States Cabinet, who is arranged to be at a physically distant, secure, and undisclosed location when the President, the Vice President, and the other officials in the line of succession are gathered at a single location, such as during State of the Union addresses and presidential inaugurations.

Only Cabinet members who are eligible to succeed to the presidency

Poetic like history of God's reminder about what he expects for those called to leading his people.

Most of us Aren’t

He went up to the mountain of God with Moses and served Moses during the wilderness wanderings.

Different word used to describe his role with Moses - not the one used for Moses who was God's servant.

Joshua's relationship with Moses was different, special.

Believed that special relationship set him up to succeed Moses to take the reigns of leading Isreal into their promised future.

But was Joshua really ready?

On the surface, we think it’s about leadership.

Moses died and Joshua takes the reigns of leading Isreal into their promised future.

The work begins...our crossing and "walking into what God has given vision for (promised through Jesus)

The realities of who we are becoming will start to take shape.

It will take a fierce courage to embrace it.

Two weeks ago: Cultivate belonging.

Today: Courage to become.

Fierce: furiously active, determined to embrace who we are called to become.

Fierce - furiously active or determined.

Joshua had an obligation...the baton was passed.

He must have known this was part of the gig when he accepted being #2.

What was on the baton - lead God's people to the promised land.

A battle.

To get there, had to embrace something they were told about themselves but hadn't yet fully

Be Strong and Courageous

Our first child: Not prepared.

No training.

No manual.

We’ll pay for your therapy later.

My first ministry role: Armed with mentors, education, a guitar, and a lot of confidence.

Then I was introduced to parents, teachers and leaders, the property committee, custodian and secretary.

You can be hand picked, groomed and still not be prepared For the Job

Joshua was told 3 times

Trained by the best.

Know the JD like you know your name.

Reviewed the hiring packet and gone through the onboard training.

Onboard training?

Identified the path to success/advancement.

Of all things God could say, why this?

AND NOT BE PREPARED.

Training?

Fortune 100 companies will not hire Harvard Business School grads.

Know a lot but not prepared.

They lack something you can’t learn.

Joshua has been reliable working behind the scenes

NOTHING HAS OR CAN PREPARE HIM FOR WHAT THE RESPONSIBILITY HE’S ABOUT TO STEP INTO.

The choice: be courageous with his life: show up and step up to the big arena or step out.

It will require him to live in the arena and be brave with his life.

Advice

Joshua has a decision to make: step up our step out.

1:9 This is the third command to be strong and courageous.

Of all things God could say, why this?

Commands are around movement, psychological state, focus, comprehension.

Trained by the best.

Where’s the path to success/advancement

What if I fail?

What if I fail?

He’s been comfortable behind the scenes.

Now it’s next man up and he has to live in the arena and be brave with his life.

Maybe for the first time, he will encounter the possibility of failure.

Thrown into such an important responsibility, Joshua has a decision to make: step up our step out.
