Chapter 13-14
Preparation for When Christ Leaves
Christ is trying to prepare his disciples emotionally for his death and what it will mean for them in the positive while they deal with the negatives of the natural emotions that are associated with death and even the feelings of defeat
Continuing with the Upper room discourse
It starts out with a statement of intimacy
Don’t have a heavy heart Believe (Have Faith/Trust) in God and Believe (Have Faith/Trust) in Me
(The Faith Walk) II 5:7 (Expound)
In my Father’s House are Many Rooms
I am preparing a place for You
I wouldn’t say this unless it were true
When the time comes, I will come a get you
You should now how to get to me
Thomas Question? How can we know the Way
Jesus Answer : I am the Way, The Truth & the Life
The Way: Gk (odos) road, direction, the path
The Truth: Gk(aletheia) correct, true, genuine, authentic, dependable, real/reality
The Life: Gk (Zoe) life physically, life substance, and Life Transcendence
Basically, this statement is saying, I am correct/true path that leads to a transcendent life
The Father and Jesus are interrelated as one
So then they only way to the live in intimate residence with Father is to have intimate residence relationship with the Son
The Signs of Truth Belief
Doing the Same Works that Jesus Did
What does asking in Jesus name mean in context to all of scripture?
To ask in someone’s name is to ask according to the Character, Power and Authority of that Person; It has the idea of asking what the person would have wanted if they had asked themselves.
