This morning we looked at how Moses set up things to help the Nation of Israel work through its issues.
But verse 15 brings it down to a very basic level, he had people set up to deal with 10’s.
The truth of the matter is, all of us need to know how to deal with interpersonal issues.
We live in the context of relationships.
We need to know how to get along.
at work. at school.
at church.
and in our homes.
Jesus said in
We should want to help people have win/win solutions in relationships.
So I found
to be loaded with helpful nuggets on achieving peaceful win/win solutions as often as possible.
Listen
To often we listen to take sides, or we listen waiting for a turn to answer, or listen to join the fight.
A great nugget mined from this passage is to HEAR.
Because you are looking to judge “rightly”.
The second nugget is
Confidence
The confidence here is not based on arrogance, ability, or even acumen (ability to make great decisions) This confidence is based on a “no dog in the fight” desire to do things God’s way.
It comes from the knowledge that God gives wisdom from his word that helps sort through issues.
This leads to the nugget of
Dependence
The peacemaker better be prayed up.
(Story of the pastor I encountered at a softball game accusing the rays of cussing at them)
I had to step back quickly.
when we get ready to be peacemakers, the truth is we must rest on the authority of God’s Word.
And we must be prepared to expect followers of Christ to put into practice what they more than likely already know.
Here’s a really good line: “You need to hang out with people to understand their problems, and you must hang out with God in order to understand the solution.”
And the last nugget is that you need to know when to
Take a Pass
I still love the freedom that comes from being able to say “I don’t know.”
But this is not the “I don’t care kind of reply.”
It says I’m sorry, I m in over my head.
I want to help you and the besy way I can do that is to point you toward someone smarter than I .
