this morning as we go to Worship in the word at work continuing the series lessons from the cross and

The subject is Jesus Jesus is the subjected of going to hold here just for a minute. Hold your just as I say. As we looked at the cross and we look at what Jesus has to teach us. There are lessons that we can learn from the cross.

And this passage this morning is simply about you've heard if I were to ask you this morning. What is the shortest verse in the Bible? You would say?

Jesus wept but a statement the Jesus made on the cross with rival that I'm sure. because as he looked down And the Heat of the day upon him the whip upon his back the crown of thorns and its head and those spikes in his hands and his feet. It's the sun beat down upon him. It says Jesus said I thirst.

simple Jesus said I thirst. So when we go to her scripture that we are reading this morning bear that in mind.

the Jesus feels our infirmities he struggles with the the same needs and problems that we all face and we think at times will the Lord does not understand what I'm going through. Is that ever crossed your mind? You just would not understand what what I have to go through. After this after these things at and last week we talked about on Mother's Day that Jesus was mindful of his mother. And knowing that he was going to not be able to take care of her Earthly needs he provided for her.

Someone who would take care of her in his absence and seeing the disciple. He loved the Beloved Jon standing there next to her. He said woman behold your son and son behold your mother and he created a family unit that did not exist before many of you may not know this but all of the disciples all of them suffered horrendous death Even Peter was crucified, but he would not be crucified like Christ. So he was crucified upside down at his request. I cannot be crucified like my savior.

And it was only John who lived out his whole life, but in case you did not know.

The Caesar at the time had John boiled in oil not a pleasant way to die, but he boiled him and oil because he wanted to exert as much pain and suffering in John. But here's the thing John did not die as they boiled him in oil. Maybe it was like being in a sauna. I don't know but

weather was Nero or one of the others. We're not sure but the timeline but they took him out and they sent him to the Isle of Patmos.

And while he was away for that. Of time, it was hard labor that he went through but he had the Revelation that he wrote down and delivered to us that we have at the end of our our Bible, but when he was released from Patmos, and he went back to a city that had a church that the Apostle Paul had founded start in Ephesus. It was John who spent the rest of his life. And he ministered to the mother of Jesus Mary and tell her passing the Lord had provided. For John to be there to take care of his mom. What an amazing savior we have?

And it says after these things. The Jesus knowing that it was now finished it was over.

To fill the fill scripture. He said I thirst.

And a Jar full of sour wine stood there a vinegar as it was so that they took until they Sponge full of it and put it on a hyssop branch and lifted it to his mouth that he might drink. of This Bitter drink

And when Jesus had received the sour wine, he said it is finished and he bowed his head and he gave up his spirit.

Even when he was on the cross he was teaching us a lesson. And it is more than just to say that Jesus knows our infirmities. He knows our sickness. He knows our pain he can identify with us because although he was fully God.

He was fully man. God understands us because he got into our skin and he lived Among Us and felt what you feel. He felt the cold of a night without the warmth of a campfire. He he felt the warmth the friendship and hugs. He experienced hunger he experienced thirsty experience pain he experienced life. And so we have a savior praise God who is aware of what we go through and he declared that on the cross. I thirst

before Jesus began his ministry. He went into the Wilderness after he was baptized.

and while he was in the wilderness, it says in Jesus full of the Holy Spirit know that

having returned from the Jordan River being baptized was led by the spirit Into the Wilderness for 40 days 40 days turn to your neighbor and say 40 days is a long time. 40 days is a long time.

And during that 40 days he was tempted by the devil. And he what does it say ate nothing, but that's what happens when you're on a past and he passed it for 40 days while he was in the wilderness in that desert region. When that time had ended the last three word says He was what hungry Jesus. imagine that God of the universe who created all things including the Trees of the field will bear fruit and all of the the harvest that the farmers planting Reef in the dates from the date tree of the olives from the olive trees in all of those things. He created but when he was in the wilderness, it says he ate nothing for 40 days and at the end of the 40 days he was hungry. Are you hungry yet?

Are you hungry? Jesus experienced hunger

maybe you've never thought of that before baby. You just took it for granted. But Jesus was hungry. I passed it for 40 days and during that time I drank juice and water.

And after the first three days I didn't want to eat anymore. But the first three days I really did want to eat.

He was hungry.

And the devil said to him if you are the Son of God and he knew he was.

Command this Stone and he picked up a stone and held it before Jesus command. This Stone be turned to bread. If you are the Son of God, you can do that and he knew we could.

And Jesus answered him mold W. It is written man. Shall not live by bread alone.

He was hungry and he could have turned that stone into a nice warm loaf of bread. Oh, yeah, fresh baked bread.

You shall not tempt the Lord your God.

Matthew record this these are the The words of Jesus for I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was hungry you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me I was in prison and you came to visit me. And then the righteous people answered the Lord Lord. When did we see you hungry and feed you in with music you thirsty and give you something to drink?

And Jesus answered.

Did I miss something there?

back

my back again. It jumped for some reason, not your phone.

anyway, it says the king said

When did we see you? Sick and when did we see? You hungry? And when did we see you in prison it and in a visit you and when did when did all this happen?

Okay. Well if it mister mister verse in there, but it says

did the king answered and said to them when you did it to the least of these you did it unto me. That's what I wanted to say. Jesus wants to encourage you and I that when we are hungry and when were thirsty? We need people who take care of our needs and when you see someone who's hungry and thirsty without clothes and someone who is sick and needing to be visited when you see someone who's in prison and needs to be visited. When you do it to the least of these you're doing it unto the Lord.

We all are hungry. We all are thirsty. We are all in need of times and it is incumbent on us as the body of Christ. We are the body of Christ. It's a beautiful song about that. If we are his body why why are his hands reaching? Why aren't you speak Goulding? Why are why are those lips moving attempted telling people about where the body of Christ we are to do the ministry? And Jesus says I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was in need of clothes. You clothed me. I was ill and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.

We are the body and it is incumbent on us. The king will reply truly. I tell you. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine. You did it for me there you found it this next. scripture

I've been titled come thirsty.

I'm the last of the great days of the festival Jesus stood up John pelsis. And he said with a loud voice let anyone who is thirsty. Come to me. and drink How do you come to Jesus and drink right? And what is that even really mean? And there's a little story that we find about the Samaritan woman and Under that label of come thirsty. So he left the area of Judea because his life was being threatened. Then he went back once more to Galilee but in the traveling from Jerusalem to Galilee had to go through an area called Samaria. That was the northern kingdom. There was the 10 tribes that broke off and went to the north and they worshipped in a certain mountain and they had their own King and their own lives and and leave left behind. the tribes of Judah and Benjamin

to Worship in Jerusalem, and he's traveling through this area and the Jews the true Jews didn't have anything to do with the Samaritans. They look down their noses on them. Remember the story about the Good Samaritan. He was the one that ministered that to the Deeds of the one who had been beat up and left to die on the road. Now. He had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called sucker. Nearest the plot of ground where Jacob's well have been given. the sons of Joseph and Jacob getzwell was there and Jesus tired from his journey sat down and it was about noon John tells us.

What is Samaritan woman came to draw water? And Jesus said to her. Will you give me a drink? Then why did you ask for a drink? Because he was thirsty Jesus feels thirst. He was tired and he needed to rest so we sat down and when the woman came to draw water, he simply asked would you give me a drink in his disciples have gone into town to buy food because they were all hungry hungry. That was a physical need and the Samaritan woman said to him. You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan. That's obvious. How is it that you asked me for a drink for the Jews don't associate with us Samaritans and she was right. And Jesus answered her if you knew the gift of God and who it was that asked you for a drink you would have asked me. You would have asked him and he would have given you living water Living Water.

Sir, the woman said you have nothing to draw with and the well, it's beeping where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob who gave us this well and drank from it himself and as did his sons and his livestock. Are you greater than him Jesus answered every month who drinks this water will but Be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I give to them will never thirst again. What kind of water would you want them?

Indeed the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

And the woman said to him sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty again and have to come here to drop water ever again.

He himself is the spring of Living Water and when he gives us this living water is he's really speaking of water. He's speaking truly about the spirit of God. And if you receive the spirit of God in your inner being there will well up within you a spring of Life Everlasting.

Yes, I have physical needs. And I have spiritual needs. But as I drink in the spirit of God it Wells up within me.

I do well of Living Water. And it is living water that I can share with you and indeed it is Living Water. I am sharing with you his spirit. I am sharing with you now that if you would receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, would you accept his Spirit into your life? It will become in you living water springing up splashing onto other people as you go through life.

another verse for us

In the Matthews in Matthew's gospel chapter 5 verse 6 simply blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled?

if you hunger and thirst after things You will fill your life. You will fill that void with stop. But if you don't fill it with the Holy Spirit, you'll always be thirsty and hungry and wanting more and more and more is there ever enough?

But blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness after the Holy Spirit after Jesus Christ. Add are filled to the full. With his spirit that is our goal and desire that we would be filled with him.

Then Jesus declared John 6 verse 35 this verse. Then Jesus declared I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry. Never be thirsty. Do you believe do you believe this morning that he is the son of God? Then his Spirit can fill you to the fall. With this Holy Spirit and you'll never be thirsty really for the things of Earth again. We've turned away from the things of Earth. And we've turned to Jesus to be filled to the full with him. Is this when I have a video in here? There's a video that I just like you two to view the scriptures that are hear the thoughts that are here. Let's meditate on this for a moment.

You noticed it said quench our thirst satisfy our thirst with your righteousness blessed. Are they who hunger and thirst? after righteousness for they shall be filled Heavenly Father this morning his we are gathered here.

We acknowledge that we recognize that you were hungry and you were thirsty. You said I thirst

I'm hungry.

And we recognize that you feel every emotion every problem that we face you have dealt with you've experienced and you have overcome. Father we pray this morning that you would fill us to the full with righteousness with your holy spirit that you would make us servants who come to you and you feed us and you fill us and you meet are thirsting souls with your spirit. And therefore as we have been comforted as we have had our needs to be we can meet the needs of others. When did we see someone hungry or thirsty? unclosed ill and beating care in pressing the needing visited when we've done it to the least of these we've done it unto you and we want to be your servants this morning Phyllis to the full with your Holy Spirit use us to your glory we pray.

And we give you our selves as a Living Sacrifice in Jesus name and everyone said amen. We're going to say.
