# 31 Jesus Heals a Government Official’s Son.

Intro: #30
John 4:43 AV
43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
Last time we looked at event # 30 Jesus preaches in Galilee. This event is found in all 4 Gospels. Matthew 4:12-17, ;, and .
Jesus continued the same message as John the Baptist after he was put into prison, Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Matthew said Kingdom of Heaven and mark and Luke say Kingdom of God. Matthew was writing specifically to Jews who do not like to say God. In many writings the term God leaves a blank at the o so as not to take God’s name in vain.
John 4:44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
Remember that Jesus was rejected in Jerusalem, Accepted in Samaria and even begged to stay which He did for 2 days and then continued on His Journey.

Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

The Jewish Galileans were somewhat receptive of Jesus only because they saw some of things Jesus had done while in Jerusalem.
John 4:45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

Jesus continued His Northward Journey to or bypassing Nazareth to Cana where He turned the water into wine. Why did He go to Cana? I think to meet with a desperate father just like He needed to go through Samaria to meet a lost woman at a well. One thing we know for absolute sure is that Jesus was doing exactly what His Father told Him to do.
John 4:46-54
John 4:46–54 KJV 1900
So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
In this passage we see 5 Steps of Faith.
I. The First step, the Nobleman “heard”

So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

Nobleman = kings-man. What ever his function, he more than likely worked for Herod who was not actually a King but wanted to be treated like one.
II. 2 Step of Faith, he went. And III. 3rd step of faith he Besought Him.

When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

Notice that heard Jesus was coming. He had also heard that Jesus was something special.
The book of Romans tells us:
Romans 10:17 AV
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
:1 says:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

This man was desperate, his son was dying. He had exhausted every resource. he had probably been to the Rabbi’s to get them to pray. Probably tried every suggestion under the sun. Some say why did he not take the boy to see Jesus? The boy was probably too sick to travel. This was a bout a 25 mile walk.
Many if not moist of us want to grow closer to God but we do not want to suffer for it happen. But God in some cases uses suffering to help us grow stronger.
The Holy Bible: King James Version., electronic ed. of the 1769 edition of the 1611 Authorized Version. (Bellingham WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1995), .
This man was desperate like any loving Father he was willing to do what ever it took. He heard Jesus was coming and that gave him a spark of hope.
Some times God has to allow us to get to desperate place to grow our faith. As our faith grows we grow closer to God.
Many if not moist of us want to grow closer to God but we do not want to suffer for it happen. But God in some cases uses suffering to help us grow stronger.
Hope is all that keeps us going at times. We are always looking for a better day. This man was desperate but there was a glimmer of hope, a little light in the far off distance, that hope was Jesus Christ. He heard that Jesus had come back to Galilee.
Nobody but Jesus would have known that Jesus would eventually go to Capernaum and make that His Home base.
This man took the first step of faith. Jesus was his only hope. Then he took the second step of faith, He took off walking for 25 miles, knowing that he may not see his son alive again, but he had to try.
This man did not just ask once, he was begging with everything in him for Jesus to come and heal his son. Notice that he wanted Jesus to go to Capernaum.
Many if not moist of us want to grow closer to God but we do not want to suffer for it happen. But God in some cases uses suffering to help us grow stronger.
Jesus’s answer seems very harsh. In my opinion, this statement was for those around Jesus and not necessarily for the man.

Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

The Jews are always seeking signs
1 Corinthians 1:22 AV
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
Many Christians today, even whole denominations talk about signs and wonders. getting a sign is not faith. Asking for a sign is clearly the opposite of Faith. Many want the sign that they recieved the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues. Preacher Sidney Hall said he knows he is saved because the Holy Spirit lives in him. Signs are opposite of faith.
Christians do not rely on signs, We rely on faith alone in Christ alone! And that is exactly what Jesus is saying here.

The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

The man thought Jesus had to go to the boy but Jesus is all knowing and all powerful.
IV. The Fourth step the man Believed. and V. Step 5 He was obedient..

Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend.
