Introduction

Background

John 5:1–5 ESV
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. 3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
John 5:1-5

Big Idea

Don’t let your Circumstances Cripple you. It’s time for your Comeback!

Sermonic Points

Don’t lose your FIGHT!

John 5:6–7 ESV
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”
John 5:6

Know

Jesus is at the pool and sees the man.
Pitiful Condition
When Jesus shows up you’re on the brink of a breakthrough.
38 years of sickness
Disability
Dysfunction
Dependance
Jesus sees you and is saying you’ve been in this state to long.
some of the people had physical sickness but some found themselves in a debilitated state due to sin.
DO YOU WANT TO BE HEALED?
Or do you love your MAT too much?

Feel

Have you become comfortable in your chaos?
We don’t hear the man say yes, but we hear his excuse.
Some of us have every excuse of why it won’t work.
“No one to put me in” -People
“When the water is stirred” - Opportunity
“Step down before me” - Timing

Do

Don’t let anything get in the way of your deliverance.
Do you want it
It’s not easy...
It may hurt...
You’ve been in this for a while...
You’re gonna have to FIGHT
Some of you have lost your FIGHT because you’ve lost your FAITH

Don’t lose your FAITH!

John 5:8-
John 5:8–11 ESV
8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” 11 But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’ ”

Know

A great multitude have gathered at the pool of Bethesda (House of Mercy).
The invalids are waiting on the next stirring of the water.
It was believed that an angel of the Lord would come down.
Jesus is about to show us however that it is not in the ceremony it’s in the connection.
As we carefully comb the text I discovered that New Testament scholars believe that a portion of verse 3 was added and the earliest Greek manuscripts do not include verse 4. They believe it was later to the text to support verse 7.
Although some believe that the water was stirred by an angel many scholars believe that the pools were fed by springs that have intermittently added fresh water to the pools.
Some of you are looking for a move of God but God is waiting on you to move.
God told me to tell you that you can’t go out like this! Get up!
This next move isn’t going to happen through a stirring but a shifting.
We’ve come to church and had our emotions stirred but we need to be shifted.
This isn’t about your rituals but its about your relationship.

Feel

Some of you have began to lose your faith because the rituals have failed you.
You’ve seen other people made whole, Get delivered, and be blessed ; but you’re still broken, and burden.
Can I suggest to you that it isn’t that he wasn’t in the wrong place but his faith was.

Do

Get Up!
You have to have enough faith to believe you can get back up again
Don’t go out like this! Get up
Take up your bed!
The bed represents your condition of affliction it is a reminder of your tragedy and your testimony.
Walk
He didn’t deliver you to stand still, and stagnate.

Don’t lose your FUTURE!

John 5:14–15 ESV
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.
John 5:

Know

Jesus breaks the Rituals, and the Rules to Restore You!
The Jews want smoke because this healing happened during their religious observation.
Now the man has been changed but he is now met with a challenge.
Sin No More, that nothing worse may happen to you.
Jesus implies here that it was Sin that put him in his condition, and he says I’ve freed you now don’t go back.
Don’t Forfeit your Future for the Familiar
It was dysfunction this time but next time it may be spiritual death.
Romans 6:23 ESV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus deals with his natural condition so that he can address his spiritual condition.

Feel

Why do we return to what he released us from?
Some of us need to be freed from MAT mentality. - Lying in our limitations.
What do you keep returning to that is Delaying you from getting to Destiny.
Proverbs 26:11 ESV
11 Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.
Is it worth the dysfunction?

Do

Stop going Back to what left you Broken.
Pray: God help me walk in my wholeness.
Encourage Yourself (and others) “You Can’t Go Out Like This!”
Testify: The reason you don’t look like what you been through is because JESUS DID IT
John 5:15 ESV
15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.
John 5:
