There is a quote that states.. “never get mad a someone for being who they’ve always been. Be upset with yourself for not coming to terms with it sooner.”
and if for some reason your still in shock.. the great poet Maya Angelou said.. “if someone shows you who they are.. believe it the first time..”
and Jesus said in
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:

In our text we have Jesus teaching.. and warning his children.. his friends .. his family .. his homies.. that men shalt always pray and not faint… but like the old church mother use to say.. you better pray with one eye open and one eye closed..
because everything that glitters is not Gold.. everything that looks good to you … aint good for ya..... some good pork chops ..meatleaf.. green beans.. corn and potatoes sounds good right about now.. but according to the dr.. it may not be good for you..

that new house on the hill.. really looks good.. but the mortgage.. is too much for you to handle.. that job looks real tempting.. but it requires you to lower you standards and your belief system…
Jesus was teaching mu like a father teaching his daughter about these little boys… just like a mother teaching her son about women..
Jesus was letting them know there are going to be some people come… that walk like you.. talk like you… dress like you… but at the end of the day.. they aint no good..there are going to be some things that come your way that seem like… its me.. but its not..
there will be some that are not spiritual enough to recognize a dead man walking… therefore.. im trying to learn you something… im trying to teach you something.. because when i leave… people will come out of the woodworks.. preaching and saying.. they are the next big thing..
and as a matter of fact.. some will use my name to cast devils out… work miracles.. but when they see me again .. and they begin to explain … and plead their case.. because no one can get to the father but by me...
i will tell them.. depart! from me .. you workers of iniquity..
II. constant, committed, connection
the Lord wasnt just telling them about the type of so called leaders.. and officals that were going to pop up.. but when you dive into the word… like diving into the ocean you see so much more than whats on the surface..
i believe the Lord was trying to show and tell them the importance of a constant, committed … connection with God… much like so many of us.. use and depend on our cell phones.. so we depend on that constant connection to that cell tower… and so we commit our selves to paying that bill every month..
but somewhere along the way our constant commitment to our connection with God has changed.... the song says.. we dont.. talk like we use to talk… we dnt pray like we use to pray..
the bible says in

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
so .. in other words… its by your fruits .. that the Lord will know that you are his disciples....
III. fruits

product- a thing or person that is a result of an action or process...
of a tree....tree...
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

In matthew the 7th chapter.. I belive Jesus was letting them know… that when you are connected and listing to me .. ill will lead you and guide you in all things..

IV. Eulogy
or plant..
and today .. my task before me.. is to comfort the family and eulogize.. Elder George Fort...
and according to google because no one really uses webster any more.... a eulogy is a high praise in speech or in writing.... so in other words im hear to give my friend.. your friend.. our father.. our brother.. some praise...
as you can tell… hopefully.. im not 98 years old.. ..as a mater fact im not even half that.... and since i dint grow up with Elder fort.... since i wasnt raised up in the same city… the only thing i have to go by is his works.. is his fruits...
and since the bible says in
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
jesus tells me , I shall know them by there fruits.... and when i look back over elder forts life… i cant help but to do like he did… when he lifted his hand and shouted Praise him..
so today is Elder Forts day.. today is the day that we thank you him..
we praise and celebrate him for..
standing tall in Madisonville and clarksville,.....helping inter-grate schools
helping establish laws .. and working with community leaders
building homes.... businesses and churches
homes.... businesses and churches
for answering the call to Pastor… in doing ministry
today I praise Elder Fort.. for being that example.. the example that says.. you can stand and do whats right even in a time when it seems like … its the wrong thing to do...
I thank you.. for being that example and showing us that if something is in you… its going to come out… one way or another..
thank you.. for making others look bad .. because even in your 90’s and sick in your body.. you pressed your way.. to church and other places.. you needed to go.. without complaint..
Elder Fort I thank and praise you.. for being a son of God…
family.. mayo Angelou said .. people will forget what you siad.. people will forget what you did.. but people will never forget how you made them feel...
family take comfort in the laughs.. cherish the memories.. and most of all hold on to the love you felt when he was near....
and when the days and nights come... when tears begin to fall.. look to God.. and allow his joy.. his joy that his has.... when he was able to say well done thy good and faithful servant.. .. and allow the joy of the Lord to be your strength.
