It comes as no surprise that most Americans are unhappy at work. We see it and hear about it nearly everyday. Someone we work with or live with is complaining about work.
We don’t need proof, but here it is anyway: In a 2017 survey of more than 17,000 United States workers in 19 different industries, The Faas Foundation discovered 71% were either actively looking for new job opportunities or had other topics on their minds always, often or sometimes while at work. (source: Mind the Workplace Report)
It’s a culture of discontentment because it’s a lost culture. Christians are not immune from this, although I propose that as redeemed laborers we should view our work differently. In this blog series I plan to guide this conversation for you.
The 2017 Mind the Workplace report, released by the nonprofit group Mental Health America (MHA) and The Faas Foundation, surveyed more than 17,000 U.S. workers in 19 industries and found that 71% were either “actively looking for new job opportunities” or had the topic on their minds “always, often or sometimes” at work. Only 19% said they “rarely or never” think about getting another job.
To work is to create and to create is to worship…and this is our calling.

Our Bibles introduce God from the very beginning as a Creator.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
This first event is the origin of the heavens and the earth, meaning at some point before the first day God created matter, space, and time. Out of nothing God chose to create our world. (, )
When you and I create something we’re always working with a raw material God created first. What’s mind boggling to me is how God first created the raw material, then he went about the work molding it into the marvelous world we enjoy today.

Now that God had a canvas we read about Him taking the formless, dark void known as earth and hover over the waters to begin six days of creation.

Day Four - Stars, Sun and Moon
Day Five - Sea Creatures including Fish and Birds
Day Six - Animals and Mankind
Day Seven - Rest
Of all that God created, Mankind is the only being made to create. Here’s why:
