What does it mean to be born again? John 3:3 (KJV) 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. What does it mean to be born again? As with many things, this is not something that can be answered simply but actually has two very important parts to understand and remember. The first part is The Fall of Man and the second part is the Redemption of Man. Both parts work together to provide an understating of the greatest gift that has ever been presented to man. The Fall of Man We are told in Romans 5:12 “wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death past upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Adam had brought sin not only unto himself, but also to everyone that will ever be born upon this earth. Yes, no matter how moral and kind you might be there is a nature that came from Adam that has put us all at odds with a holy God. For in the Book of Psalms, 51: 5 we read “Behold I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” The Psalmist is not saying that his mother was committing some sinful act, but points us to the fact that even in the very conception in the womb, the sin nature of Adam is still active and alive. For the sin is passed on through the father unto the child, even as the scriptures tell us in Exodus 34:7 . . . visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. Therefore, because of Adam’s sin judgment was put upon him and all his progeny, for Romans 5:17 and 18 we read “For if by one man’s offence death reign by one; . . . Therefore as by one judgment came upon all men to condemnation.” From that one disobedience in the Garden of Eden we have all been proclaimed by God to be sinners and in need of a savior, we read in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and in the same chapter in verse ten we are told “As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one: so we can see that we are in need of someone to be a go between as Job said in 16:21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbor! Jesus Paid the Price It’s pretty amazing to think that God gave his own Son just so that we could live eternally with Him and this eternal life is the greatest gift that man has ever been given. However, a gift is only applicable if it is received. For example, if I was to buy a brand new Ford Mustang convertible for my daughter, registered it, insured it and simply handed her the keys. She would have to accept my offer of the keys in order to take possession of the vehicle as a gift. It is the same with God. He has his hands outstretched, palms open offering you the gift of eternal life, but if you do not say, Yes, Lord, if you do not accept his gift, then you will never be able to enter into the relationship with God that will guarantee you a place in his kingdom forever. It is quite simple to accept the Lord’s gift, it is quite simple to become born again. If you desire to come into fellowship with God today, just reach out to Him, and pray a simple prayer, such as this: Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner and that you have died on the cross in my place that it was for my sin that you died. I ask that you will forgive me of all my sins that I have committed against you and come live your life in me, I surrender my life to you, Please save me, please forgive me, please come into my life and make me new in Jesus name I pray. If you have prayed this prayer and have meant it, then based upon the word of God you are born again and the Spirit of God dwells in you. Romans 10:9-13 says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. . . For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
