Introduction

The Most Familiar Verse in the Bible
Taught to children in Sunday School
Whispered to love ones on death beds
Appears in crowds at athletic events
Known by more people than any other Bible verse
Why John 3:16 Is a Text for Us All
Contains love enough for us all
Contains sacrifice enough for us all
Contains invitation enough for us all
Contains life that is long enough for us all
Rediscovering John 3:16

I. A Love Enough for Us All

“For God so loved the world”
What if God had not loved the world
We would all be without hope
there would be no purpose in living
God so loves us all
No matter what we have done
No matter what our positions in life
No matter how worthless we feel

II. Sacrifice Enough for Us All

“That he gave his only begotten Son”
The birth in Bethlehem is in these words
The sinless life of Jesus is in these words
The death of Jesus is in these words
The resurrection of Jesus is in the these words
God’s love moved Him to give His Son
The sufficient sacrifice for our sins
The Lamb of God sacrificed for us all (John 1:19)
John 1:19 NLT
This was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants from Jerusalem to ask John, “Who are you?”
Cleansed from all sin (1 John 1:7-9)
1 John 1:7–9 NLT
But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
All our sins were laid on Him (Isa 53:5-6)
Isaiah 53:5–6 NLT
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.
Washed from all our sins by His blood (Rev 1:5)
Revelation 1:5 NLT
and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us.

III. Invitation Enough for Us All

“The Whosoever believeth in Him”
Whosoever is a word for us all
A word that is general, yet particular
A word that embraces all, yet touches each one
Write you name in this text and believe

IV. Life That Is Long Enough for Us All

“Should not perish, but have everlasting life”
Our natural life span is about 70-80 years
Everlasting life is far better

Conclusion

Here, Then, Is a Message for Us All
How Will We Respond to Is?
