Choosing your future… right values… right guide … now, the right Team of people.
To do what God wants you to accomplish, you will have to have a team.
Success is never a one man show. Even solo athletes have a support team.
You need a personal Team… a Dream Team.
Today we will look at three angles… The Kinds of people… the reasons to have a team … what to look for.

Four Kinds of People You Need in Your Life

Models

who inspire you by their example.
Everything you learned… the way you walk and talk you learned from modeling.
If you don’t have a model of where you want to be in 5 … 10 years, you won’t get there.

Mentors

who coach you.
Coaches help people accomplish their goals.
My dad - taught hard work, honesty, forgiveness...
Jon Elder - taught me to depend og the Lord and to stay close to him… no matter what.
Buford Easley - stand strong with God for what you believe.

Partners

who share your dream and work with you. It’s bigger than you can accomplish on your own.

Friends

who will love and pray for you even if they don’t share your dream or goal.
They are there if you succeed or fail. Walk in when others walk out...
You don’t need hundreds, but you do need a few good friends that bring out the best in you...
You don’t want friends that will pull you down. It’s easier to be pulled down than to pull other’s up.
You may know what God wants you to do, but the wrong friends can cause you to miss it.
1 Corinthians 3:6–9 TEV
6 I sowed the seed, Apollos watered the plant, but it was God who made the plant grow. 7 The one who sows and the one who waters really do not matter. It is God who matters, because he makes the plant grow. 8 There is no difference between the one who sows and the one who waters; God will reward each one according to the work each has done. 9 For we are partners working together for God, and you are God’s field. You are also God’s building.
I believe God wants you to live a fulfilled life, but some will not… some will be sidelined or even out of the church completely.
Some not serious about following Jesus
Some did not build your dream team… You didn’t get connected. When times get tough, you don’t have that team of friends to fall back on… to help you up.
You need these types of people… Let’s call them your Dream Team....
Here are 5 REASONS YOU NEED A TEAM FOR YOUR LIFE

Why You Need a Dream Team in Your Life

To make up for my weaknesses.

None of us has all the talent… all the know how. We need people who compensate for our weaknesses. We are shaped differently for a reason.
Romans 1:12 NCV
12 I mean that I want us to help each other with the faith we have. Your faith will help me, and my faith will help you.
We all need people in our lives… especially working with us that fill in the gaps of our giftings.

To bring out the best in me.

I don’t just need someone to compensate fro my weaknesses.
I need people who bring out the best in me… you do to. We all need this.
Proverbs 27:17 NLT
17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
Ask, do these friends sharpen me and do they shape me to be the person God wants me to be? If they don’t sharpen you or make you better, they are not your friends.
Your closest friends should only sharpen you.

To get more done.

Obvious 2 can do more than 1… 3 more than 2...
Ecclesiastes 4:9 NCV
9 Two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together.
ILL - Project that you need to do and you can do it alone, but it’s much faster and easier when you have someone helping you.

To help me get back up when I stumble.

We will all stumble. You may have God’s dream, but you may not go straight to it. You will stumble… make mistakes ....
James 3:2 NLT
2 Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
You will fall, but it doesn’t matter when you have a team to help you get back up.
Ecclesiastes 4:10 CEV
10 If you fall, your friend can help you up. But if you fall without having a friend nearby, you are really in trouble.
You need people who can help make up for your weaknesses, bring out the best in you, get more done and get back up when you stumble…
and

To Resist attacks and criticism.

The moment you begin doing what God wants you to do, the enemy will come against you. People will try to rain on your parade…
No matter who you are in life, you're going to be criticized by somebody. You just have to decide who do I want to be criticized by? I want to be criticized by small-minded thinkers.
I want to be criticized by people who don't understand the kingdom of God. I want to be with people who do understand that people matter to God, that Jesus is the way, and who are big thinkers
Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT
12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
The more strands in a rope the stronger it is… the more people you have ion your team, the stronger your team and the less likely you will cave when attacked.
Describe BG Team
What made them so effective? BG chose wisely using these criteria.

Picking Your Team… what to look for.

1. Choose people who want to love and serve God.

If you are choosing people to be on your Dream Team, they have to love the Lord and be willing to serve him. If the people closest to you don’t love and serve the Lord, you are going in the wrong direction.
2 Corinthians 6:14 NLT
14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?
1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV
33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
I have seen this over and over… bad company corrupts good character. You can have good dreams, and you can have good character, but if you choose the wrong team, you go in the wrong direction.

2. Choose people committed to growing in character.

Talent will only take you so far. Character will take you to the end of your life. A lot of talented people flame out… and drop out.
BG chose men and women of good character and who were committed to helping each other grow...
Specifically 3 characteristics God always blesses.
1. Integrity.
If you want God to bless you, you better live a life of integrity.
Proverbs 10:9 NLT
9 People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.
Integrity is not just about honesty… it’s about staying focused on what God wants you to do.
ILL - BG was offered the part of Moses in 10 commandments… he said I’m not a star… I am a preacher of the Gospel.
2. Humility.
Proverbs 3:34 TEV
34 He has no use for conceited people, but shows favour to those who are humble.
If you want God's favor on your life, on your dream, on your business, on your blessing, then you need to walk with humility.
BG - traveled the world preaching 60 plus years and never bought a jet.
Great people are not impressed with themselves. They are focused on you, not themselves. They don’t put people down, but they build them up.
3. Generosity.
Not just talking about money.
Proverbs 22:9 NCV
9 Generous people will be blessed, because they share their food with the poor.
More promises regarding generosity than all others. If you want God to bless what you are doing, be generous.
BG - paid for a crusade here in New Orleans after Katrina.
Psalm 92:12–14 NLT
12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. 13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. 14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.
When you live a godly life, a life of encouraging others, a life of serving the Lord, you will flourish.

3. People who do what’s right even when it’s hard.

Have to do this if you want God to use you.
Deuteronomy 12:28 CEV
28 If you obey these laws, you will be doing what the Lord your God says is right and good. Then he will help you and your descendants be successful.
This is a promise to us when we obey him. God says that he will make you successful when you obey him.
Psalm 34:19 NCV
19 People who do what is right may have many problems, but the Lord will solve them all.
God is not promising that it will be easy or even get better. He says you will have problems. When you seek to follow the Lord, those around you who do not want to follow the Lord will not like it and even attack you because of it.
You may have to stand up for workers when others are not. You make have to stand for the impoverished…
You make have to stand to help the poor… immigrants… those in jail…

4. People who handle criticism by focusing on God.

Don’t retaliate or try to get even.
Matthew 5:10–12 CEV
10 God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven. 11 God will bless you when people insult you, mistreat you, and tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me. 12 Be happy and excited! You will have a great reward in heaven. People did these same things to the prophets who lived long ago.
BG was more interested in bringing people to Jesus than he was criticism. He was criticsed.
We were criticized for feeding people on Wednesdays… once again we were more interested in people coming to faith in Christ.
There are a lot of moral issues in our culture that have been politicized. Abortion, Gender identity, equal pay, affordable healthcare…
RW in China…
Hebrews 10:35 TEV
35 Do not lose your courage, then, because it brings with it a great reward.
We want everyone to come to faith in Jesus Christ. My hope is not in who is president or governor … it’s in Jesus Christ. I know that our world will be a better place when everyone is following Jesus.
You need to run your race and ignore the crowd. In the crowd will people cheering for you and yelling against you.

5. People who take bold steps in faith.

God has a purpose and a plan for your life which is going to require you to take Bold steps of faith.
Acts 15:25–26 NIV
25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul—26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I pray that we become people who risk our lives… our reputations for the Lord. We need to step up for the Lord in our culture.
Today we have people doing whatever they can to climb the ladder to success… but they get to the top and realize that the ladder they climbed is leaning on the wrong wall.
don’t waste your life … you time … your energy on petty things that will not last. Be intent on finishing well.
Acts 13:36 NLT
36 This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.
This could be said about you or I one day. That’s a life well lived.
David served God’s purpose in his generation. BG served the Lord in his generation. You and I need to serve the Lord in our generation.
2 Chronicles 16:9 NLT
9 The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.”
You don’t have to be perfect… just available… He will give you strength. He is looking for people who want to serve him… whose heart is on him.
1 John 5:4–5 CEV
4 Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory. 5 No one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God.
No one can defeat the enemy without faith in Jesus.
