What is the object of our worship?

- ILLUSTRATION: 2 People, 4 Objects
God is to be the object of our praise
ILLUSTRATION: 2 People, 4 Objects
Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts!
Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the Lord!
For he commanded and they were created.
And he established them forever and ever;
he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy wind fulfilling his word!
Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
10  Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and flying birds!
11  Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
12  Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
13  Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
God Alone should be worshipped and There is nothing greater than God.
This is why he says in the 10 Commandments , “You shall have no other gods before me.” () - He is to be the focus of our worship
God also says, “You shall not worship them or serve them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God” () - There is nothing or no one more worthy than God to be worshipped

So What is Worship?

Not just the valuing of a person or object, but “True Worship is the valuing or treasuring of God above all things.”
John Piper famously said, “Missions exists because worship does not. Worship is ultimate, not missions because God is ultimate not man.”

God is Seeking Worshippers ()

- But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

Truth

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
God wants true worshippers who worship in Spirit and Truth
What does God want from us? Our worship
Jesus says in , “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me.”
Jesus is saying that this form of worship this lip service to God but no heart is in VAIN. It amounts to nothing.
It doesn’t matter how many songs we sing, how many acts of service we do, how much we give.
If nothing is happening in our heart toward God then we are not worshipping God
True Worshippers of God Worship in Spirit and Truth
You could replace Truth and Spirit with Head and Heart

Truth

Truth is the right thinking, the right understanding of who God is. Who He is revealed in His Word
“You can’t love what you don’t know”
ILLUSTRATION: I fell in love with Alex by getting to know her. What she likes, what she dislikes, what makes her laugh, how she laughs, what she is passionate about, who she is
My HEAD connected with my HEART
As we learn about God: His majesty, his power, his grace and mercy, his justice, his provision, his plan of salvation, his love for us. Our HEAD connects with our HEART in love, adoration to God

Spirit

And so we worship God with our Heart, with our Spirit. It is gut turning, goosebumps feeling toward God.

So What Does Worship Look Like?

Psalm 100 ESV
A Psalm for giving thanks. 1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! 3 Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
