What is something that someone left to you that you cherish
For me it was my grandmothers Bible and her cookbook
Even better is the wisdom
Put God first
You cannot have a good marriage or raise kids without the Lord
Get in your Bible every morning
We all will leave something to those we love.
Is there any better legacy than wisdom?

The Importance of Generational, Biblical Wisdom
(1) Here Solomon urges his sons to listen to his words. The word here is translated discipline, in KJV understanding, in ESV insight. The word here carries the meaning of a word of instructive warning.
(2) Solomon reiterates that what he is teaching is good, it should not be abandoned
Why would someone ignore or abandon good teaching
They would doubt it, not believe it, think they know better

Solomon states that what he is teaching to those younger he learned when he was younger from his father
Application: For those of us that have children, grandchildren, or others that look up to us, what does this verse expect from us?

Wisdom must be embraced not only by the mind, but by the heart
What is the difference?
Heart implies: Mind, Emotions, Conscience
Head knowledge of Scripture can be easily driven out.
He emphasizes the keeping of commands
What good does it do to know them, say you believe them, but not follow them?
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
(5) The sons are now told in motivational language to get wisdom
“Good raising” isn’t enough. We must embrace it. This has been one of the greatest struggles in the “bible belt”. You’re not saved because “momma and dem” believed . Same applies with holiness and wise living. You have to own it for yourselves.
Two temptations
Forget it: you get pulled in by competing worldviews. Because you were never convicted you drift toward them then embrace them.
Turn away (decline kjv): Something causes you to doubt
Could be unanswered questions
Often it is sin.

Two warnings
Don’t abandon or forsake wisdom
Two blessings
Wisdom will preserve you (the slow decay)
Wisdom will protect you (the rapid fall)
(7) An admonition ; Get Wisdom!

Corporate Bible study
Corporate Prayer
Serving God
Reading good Christian literature
Accountability
We see that this requires time and dedication. The enemy will try to rob you of what you need to pursue wisdom. Do not let him win.
