When we think of opportunities, we often picture doing something, or becoming something that is greater than what we have or are now.
It’s something Big!
It’s something important!
It LOOKS important to us and to others. When you tell them about your opportunity, other instantly recognize it’s value!
I think that is the dream that many of us have. That’s the FB, Instagram, and POP TV portrayal of opportunity and success, right?
BUt is it so?
Today, we look at the opportunity that was placed before the people of Jesus’ time. How it looked, and how they responded to the Light that was right before them!
And I ask you to consider what your response is to the Light you have been given.

The People of Christ’s country had greater opportunity than anyone else to hear the Saviour, to KNOW the Saviour and to Serve the Saviour, but they lost those opportunities.
Why?

These people knew who Jesus was.
They had watched Him grow up.
They had watched Him take wood and fashion it into furniture, houses, etc.
They knew his family of sinners!

They refused to allow the things that they heard from God to change their hearts and minds and lives.
*What is our response to seeing, hearing, reading the Word of God? Do we accept and change? that is belief.

I am not against opportunities, but we must be careful of making that the GOAL.
This Scripture gives us some things to consider about the opportunities that lie before us.

Moses had a rod he used for God. In Moses’ day, everyone had a rod!
David had a sling and some rocks. Same as Moses.
What looks so familiar to you that you ignore it?
Daily Devotions?
Faithfulness to the Word of God and the Church of God?
Stewardship of Talent, Time & Treasure? - Tithe of each?

Do not despise small, seemingly insignificant things!

We need parents who will be serious in setting a good example and training their children to follow God.
When we search for significance, we often put ourselves before our Lord’s glory.

Vs. 7-9 applied to this instance of sending them out, but later on, Christ told them to take all these things with them
Notice Verse 12 - Repent
Why would we confront people with their sin? But that is what they were to do!

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Conclusion:
Seek ye first the kingdom of God...

It doesn’t make sense to put faith before family.
