Importance of Shoes

In warfare one of the most important aspects is being able to move and mobilize troops. In ancient warfare the way that this was done majority of the time was the march. Battles could be determined by who could move their troops quickly to the most strategic locations. If the army had inadequate protection for the feet, they would not be able to carry out their mission.
This was also hand to hand combat, foot work is key in hand to hand combat.
Bruce Lee used to study for hours the footwork of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, and other boxing greats, learning their footwork for fighting.
Your footing has to be secure when you are entering into battle. The shoe is key to that.

The Gospel

The good news, we now have reconciliation with God, we are saved from our sins, everyone has an opportunity to come to God, it doesn’t matter if you are poor or rich.
The gospel is what God uses to bring people to salvation!!
Romans 1:16 ESV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
You have been redeemed.

Of Peace

The gospel is the good news, but if we are speaking of terms of peace. It isn’t peace with man.
I’ve noticed that the gospel sometimes brings division with man.
We are going to look at Isaiah 59:8, but first v. 2 to get the context.
Isaiah 59:2 ESV
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
This passage is about those who don’t repent from their sins.
Isaiah 59:8 ESV
The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked; no one who treads on them knows peace.
The people who don’t follow God, who don’t repent from their sins, who do what they want in this life, they don’t know peace.
We are called to live a life that brings glory to God!!
Why don’t we have peace with people who don’t know Jesus? They are living in and trying to justify their sins. Therefore their paths are crooked and they don’t know the way of peace.
Even Jesus says
Matthew 10:34 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
Jesus even says that He didn’t come to bring peace.
His word will cause division.
John 14:27 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
The peace that Jesus comes to bring is different than the peace that is in the world.
His first goal isn’t peace between different people....that comes, but that wasn’t His first goal.

Peace with God

Romans 5:1–2 ESV
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Because we are justified, we have peace with God.
This is the gospel, this is the good news.
Psalm 7:11 ESV
God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.
God is righteous and feels indignation because of sin every day.
Psalm 7:12–13 ESV
If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.
God feels the indignation, he is ready for war against those whom He is not at peace with.
God is Loving and good. But He is also righteous and Just.
The gospel of peace, isn’t the peace that is between us, it is that because of the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed to us, we now have peace with God.

Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

The readiness that is brought on by having and knowing the gospel of peace.
Isaiah 52:7 ESV
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
“Don’t shoot the messenger,” there’s a reason for that statement, they used to. You could tell the if the news was good or bad by the gate, the feet of the messenger.
The feet of the messenger with good news was a delightful thing to see. How beautiful were his feet.
Paul had that in mind in Romans
Romans 10:14–15 ESV
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
How beautiful are the feet of the one who comes bearing the good news!!
Peace has come to man, we are no longer enemies of God!!
Who is preaching this message?!?!
The word for gospel, is evangelion; sound familiar? Same root that we get the word evangelist.
Are you putting on this armor? Are your feet beautiful in bringing the good news to the people you come in contact with, that they can have peace with God through Jesus Christ?
Are you doing the work of an evangelist?
Mothers you can effect your children so much, no one has more of an impact on their lives than mom and dad. When they are young are you training them to follow Jesus?

Lies from the enemy

You have guilt before God
You are not right in His eyes and He is mad at you.
We talked about this last week.
You are Justified in the eyes of God because of the imputation of the righteousness of Jesus Christ given to you because of faith. The faith that isn’t your own but even that is a gift of God.
You don’t know enough to tell people about Jesus
The enemy wants you to be quiet, he doesn’t want you to tell others about Jesus.
He likes the idea of you believing that you cannot tell others.
John 21:15?
