Today’s Message: Living Life through Marriage (Next week: Living Life through Singleness).
For those who are married, outside of our relationship with God, our relationship with our spouse should be our first priority, the source of our greatest encouragement and fulfillment, and a bedrock of hope and security.
It should be a powerful loving union.
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
What does this mean?
What does this mean?
A Christian marriage means that you conduct your life in such a way that your demeanor and choices consistently demonstrate to your spouse that he or she is loved and lovable.
When Christians marry, we make a covenantal vow to love our spouse faithfully, freely, fruitfully, and forever. From this point on, every significant decision we make is to be informed by that vow.
However, that does not describe many marriages of professing Christians today!
So many marriages are in turmoil and rooted in unhealthy attitudes and actions.
Something to think about:
A strong Christian marriage is NOT built upon the commitment two people have to each other.
A strong Christian marriage IS BUILT upon the commitment the husband/wife have to God.
Ephesians 5:31-32
31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
Marriage serves as a powerful illustration of our relationship with God.
A Godly Marriage should possess three foundational qualities:

The word ambition is defined as “a strong desire to achieve something.”
A Christian couple must possess a pursuing drive to reach toward building and perfecting a God-honoring marriage.

Passion, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is “a strong and barely controllable emotion.”
That means our passion — the focus of that strong and barely controllable emotion — is not devoted to pursuing leadership goals or achievements, but to our spouse.
God knows we are at our best when we are living in an atmosphere of passion for one another.
We are more generous, more patient, and more forgiving.

For Christians, the love between spouses is meant to reveal how God loves the world.
Earthly marriage points to our eternal destiny when we will be perfectly united in and fulfilled by his love.
The apostle Paul views earthly marriage as a prophetic sign of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19 – 22).
That is why Jesus said there is no marriage in heaven.
Once we arrive, the sign will no longer be needed (Matthew 22:30); we will have reached our destiny, marriage to Christ, and will enjoy a wedding celebration that will last forever.
