Let's begin by inviting the parents up to the front who have submitted a request for Parent and Child dedication.
And I would like to at this time invite my wife, Christina, to come and introduce the parents and children and to present them with their Certificate of Dedication and gift.
PARENTS COMMITMENT
Ps. 127:3 declares: “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord;”
Some gifts have some strings attached … some do not.
In this case, God’s gifts to you DO have some strings attached.
Since God has given you the precious gift of children, He has also given you an awesome responsibility.
God has given you the responsibility to:
o Train up your children in the ways of God.
o Be an example of Christian living both inside and outside the home.
o Provide for, protect, and nurture your children.
o Make them a part of your family, sharing with them your love, your time, and your life.
o Teach them to love the same Jesus that you love … and to serve, obey and honor Him with all their heart.
By coming up here this morning … you, as parents, are publicly saying that you want to raise your children in a Christ-honoring home … and are asking God’s blessing on your ministry as Christian parents.
LISTEN, as I ask you some questions.
In answering these questions, you are making promises to GOD.
NOT to me … NOT to your children … BUT … to GOD.
If you are willing to commit your children to God, and to dedicate yourself to raising them in God’s word, and for His honor and glory … THEN … reply by saying “We Do” to the following promises:
Promise #1: Do you here this day recognize your child as a gift from God, and give heartfelt thanks for God’s blessing?
Answer: We do.
Promise #2: Do you here this day dedicate your child to the Lord who gave them to you? Answer: We do.
Promise #3: Do you here this day pledge as a parent that you will bring your child up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
Answer: We do.
Promise #4: Do you here this day promise to give your child every possible benefit of home, of school and of church?
Answer: We do.
Promise #5: Do you here this day, pledge to pray for God to prosper and bless your child as they grow and develop?
Answer: We do.
Promise #6: Do you here this day promise to set a Christian example before your child as they grow up?
Answer: We do.
Promise #7: Do you here this day pledge to do all you can to direct your child toward a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior?
Answer: We do.
CONGREGATION COMMITMENT
As a church we are all part of the family of God.
As a family we need to work alongside parents in their efforts to portray Christ to their child.
Are we merely spectators, or will we rise to the challenge of being brothers and sisters in Christ and exhibit godly characteristics and thus provide continuity in what is being taught at home and what is being seen at church?
Congregation, let your response be “We are family."
(Congregation) We are family.
As a family we must also be willing to hold one another accountable and confront one another when a mistake is made in order that the purity and integrity of our commitments are maintained.
You have heard parents state their commitment to a greater level of Christlikeness for the sake of their child.
Will you now acknowledge their commitment and indicate your willingness to help them keep their promise?
Church, let your response be “We are Willing"
(Congregation) We are Willing.
Congregation, will you please stand as a demonstration of your commitment to these families and join me in prayer for them?
Dedication Prayer
“Father of all life, we thank you for the life (lives) now dedicated to your love and care.
We pray that your mercies will follow these children all the days of their life.
Bless the parents and help them to remain faithful to the commitments and promises made this day to you on behalf of their children as witnessed by this congregation.
Help each of us in this congregation to fulfill our responsibility to pray for each of them and to partner with their family in providing the kind of environment that will bless them and lead them to meaningful faith in Jesus.
We pray this in the name of the One who said, “Allow the little children to come unto me,” Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, Amen.”
