11 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

David sees his need of Mercy and cleansing

David sees his need of Mercy and cleansing

David sees his need of Mercy and cleansing

Psalm 51:1–2 KJV 1900
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.
psalm 51:1-2

David acknowledges his sin

Uriah the Hittite. The name of Uriah, like that of Eliam, appears in the list of David’s greatest heroes (ch. 23:39). Everything indicates that Uriah was a brave soldier and a man of upright character. The Hittites as a people were warlike and brave. David’s offense was particularly grievous since Bath-sheba was a married woman and her husband was one of David’s most noble and trusted officers, a man of an alien race who had been brought in contact with the religion of the true God.

Psalm 51:3 KJV 1900
For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me.

David laments the human condition

Psalm 51:5 KJV 1900
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.

What God desires for us

Psalm 51:6 KJV 1900
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: And in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
You might feel like you have gone too far from God and that he will not forgive you but He proclaims in
Isaiah 43:25 KJV 1900
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, And will not remember thy sins.

25  I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake,

And will not remember thy sins.

Isaiah 43:

But what kind of mercy does God give to the penitent sinner?
God’s mercy is more than punishment withheld.
It actively helps those who are miserable due to circumstances beyond their control. This is demonstrated in Jesus’ healing of the blind (; ) and lepers (). The parable of the Prodigal Son () shows how God is “the Father of all mercies and the God of all consolation” (); the parable of the merciless servant () puts this divine quality in a negative setting. God’s merciful faithfulness is most evident in his sending Jesus and saving his people (; ). God’s mercy will be manifest at the final judgment (; ). God is merciful and expects his children to be merciful (; ).1

As I contemplate the references above i can’t help but think about who I am and who God wants me to be.
Imagine “God’s mercy is more than just punishment withheld. It actively helps those who are miserable due to circumstances beyond their control.”
I chose to sin....It seemed small but now that its destructive nature is being revealed and my life is being torn apart it has gone beyond my control.
LIKE CANCER SIN RAVAGES THE SINNER
LIKE A SLAVE MASTER IT ABUSES THE SLAVE
LIKE A LION IT DEVOURS IT’S PREY
DESPONDENT I CRY LORD THIS DEBT IS TO MUCH FOR ME TO PAY
THEN A STILL SMALL VOICE DEMOLISHES THE HOPELESSNESS AND FEAR
LIKE A SLEDGE HAMMER IT RIPS THRU THE WALLS THAT SATAN BUILT BETWEEN ME AND GOD
ABOVE the SHOUTS OF SATAN HE WHISPERS... MY CHILD MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU
SUDDENLY, ACROSS THE CHASM OF BROKEN DREAMS AND EMPTY PROMISES JESUS STRETCHES OUT HIS HAND FOR A SINNER LIKE ME.

There's a bridge to cross the great divide
A way was made to reach the other side
The mercy of the Father, cost His son His life
His love is deep, His love is wide
There's a cross to bridge the great divide
God is faithful
On my own I'm unable
He found me hopeless, alone and sent a Savior
He's provided a path and promised to guide us
Safely past all the sin that would divide us
His love delivers me
This is active grace. He doesn’t just say “OK I wont hurt you.”
He says “I will lift you up and plant your feet on higher ground. I will be your strength and your keeper.”
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto whim that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Psalm 32:5 KJV 1900
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, And mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Psalm 32:5 KJV 1900
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, And mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Psalm 3 KJV 1900
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. Lord, How are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; My glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, And he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, That have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: For thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; Thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: Thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
