The Prayer of Jairus

Humility

Fell at His feet...
this was not Ratchagan tee 10! This was a CARPENTER who claimed to be the Messiah! Perhaps none of Jairus’ friends accepted Christ?
Christ wasn’t dressed like a Priest, or a king, or as anyone special, He Looked Normal!

Believing

Vs. 23 “Lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.”

Boldness

1.3
Vss. 21-22 “much people gathered unto Him…he fell at His feet.”
Now, A minute ago, I said that this prayer was humble. How can we be both humble and bold at the same time? The thing is this...
Humility is submitting ourselves to what the Holy Spirit and the Word tell us.
Boldness is following the Holy Spirit and the Truth in spite of what others may say about us.
Such a public show of obeisance was probably shocking to the people of this town…that one of their religious rulers would prostrate himself before this carpenter from Nazareth!???
Many people say that belief in Jesus is for the weak person…in china they teach that only mentally unwell people believe such a thing. BUT, given that, does it not take greater courage to trust Christ and to live for Him than to not? YES, IT DOES!

Loving and Selfless

Unfortunately, many people are not willing to consider the Truths of Scripture until they are facing some terrible circumstance that causes them to make a major change in their lives.
Many times the thing that brings us to a point when we are willing to listen to the truth of Christ is a problem in our lives.
Christians: Many saved people will never learn to pray if we do not experience pain and trials. It is often in the trials of life that we draw near to the Saviour…but it does not need to be that way!
Look at the example of the model prayer that Jesus gave to His disciples...
1  And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2  And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Jairus’ Prayer Is Answered

Vss. 35-43
Vs. 36 “Be not afraid, only Believe.”

(Possible Conclusion)
One of the things we see in the miracles and works of Christ is, they were centered around people
Do you believe in Christ for Who He is, or for what you want?
I believe this is the great distinction between those who were bumping into Christ and these two people who experienced miracles in their lives.
Christian, Be sincere to seek after Christ and understand Who He is, why He came to save and what it truly means to have FAITH in God!
Unbeliever, Whether you are a well-respected person in the community, or an outcast from society, the way to Eternal Life is the same - You Must Believe!

Jairus

A ruler of the synagogue

A man of Reputation in the community
He would have been looked up to as a good man and a man who would do the right thing.
Respected
You don’t get to be the ruler of a synagogue without being respected
Responsible
The responsibility of the ruler of a synagogue was not to be taken lightly.

The Sick Woman

What was her sickness? It appears that she suffered from something like having her monthly cycle all the time.

Faith of the Woman

Now, I have no idea what that would be like personally, but I have gone to school and I have heard that that time of the month is not pleasant, for the lady, and I cannot imagine what it would be like to be in that state for 12 years!!! Vs. 25
explain the rules of separation that the Jews were to follow, which would have made her an outcast in the town…Nobody would want to come into contact with her unless they had time to go through the cleansing process outlined in Leviticus.

Her Faith
